A collection of the first three Omar Yussef mysteries by Matt Beynon Rees (also sometimes just listed as Matt Rees) is available on Kobo India for ~250 rupees. It's couponable in India, and probably elsewhere. The three books are: The Bethlehem Murders (apa The Collaborator of Bethelehem), The Saladin Murders (apa A Grave in Gaza) and The Samaritan's Secret. I've read the first two in this series and found them excellent, if a bit gritty. (How could they not be, describing life in Palestine...)

Quote:
SYNOPSIS

Three acclaimed novels in the Omar Yussef series in one volume, from an award-winning author.

The Bethlehem Murders
For decades, Omar Yussef has taught history to the children of Bethlehem. When a favourite former pupil, George Saba, is arrested for collaborating with the Israelis in the killing of a Palestinian guerrilla, Yussef is convinced that he has been framed and sets out to prove his innocence.

The Saladin Murders
When Omar Yussef learns that a fellow teacher has been accused of links to the CIA, and jailed, his suspicions are immediately aroused. The more Yussef investigates the arrest, the more people seem to be implicated, and the murkier his search for the truth becomes.

The Samaritan's Secret
When Omar Yussef travels to Nablus, the West Bank's most violent town, to attend a wedding, he little expects the trouble that awaits him. An ancient Torah scroll belonging to the Samaritans, descendants of the biblical Joseph, has been stolen. But when the dead body of a young Samaritan is discovered, a seemingly straightforward theft inquiry takes an unexpected turn.

The Camilla MacPhee Mysteries 6-Book Bundle by Mary Jane Maffini contains the first six books (the only six, according to the Stop You're Killing Me website) in the series:

Quote:
Camilla MacPhee is the black sheep of her perfect, blonde family, and her uneasy association with the world of crime takes bizarre turns through hotel crucifixions, firebombing, vengeful exes, drowned lawyers, and bossy sisters in this seriously funny, dark mystery series.
Speak Ill of the Dead
The Icing on the Corpse
Little Boy Blues
The Devil's in the Details
The Dead Don't Get Out Much
Law and Disorder

It's a little odd, because only five books are listed in the "title" area of the buncle, but all six are listed in the description. I haven't bought the bundle, just came across it on the way to something else, so I can't vouch for whether there are five or six in the set.

It's available and couponable in Kobo India, and probably a number of other Kobo stores.

The Meg Harris Mysteries 5-Book Bundle by R.J. Harlick contains the first five books (again, the only five, according to the Stop You're Killing Me website) in the series:

Death's Golden Whisper
Red Ice for a Shroud
The River Runs Orange
Arctic Blue Death
A Green Place for Dying

Quote:
Meg Harris, an amateur sleuth who drinks a little too much and is afraid of the dark, delves into the finds herself confronting an underside of life she would rather not know existed.
Also, according to the blurb, Arctic Blue Death was shortlisted for the Arthur Ellis Award for best crime novel.

Interesting ... Kobo US has the 5 book R.J. Harlick bundle for $21.69. They also have a 6 book bundle, same five books plus Silver Totem of Shame, for $21.69. At the very least the math they use for figuring the discount off the combined total of individual books is wrong since they show the same figures for 6 books that they show for 5.

It seems that the Hemingway Collection may only be available at Kobo UK, so far.

It doesn't show for Kobo Aus or Canada or India.

However, no doubt because Hemingway is in the public domain in Canada, most of his books seem to be priced between CAD$0.99 and $2.99 and discountable. Excellent value!!!

(I'm still keen on the entire Scribner Collection though, so I hope they're released sooner rather than later to the other Kobo sites)

Edit
Many of Hemingway's books are between AUD$.99 and $2.99 in Aus as well and discountable. (At Amazon Aus they all seem to be over $9)

The Lord Edward Corinth and Verity Browne Omnibus contains the first four books in that series by David Roberts. I have read the first two, as well as some of the other books in this series, and enjoyed them all. These are historical mysteries, set between the two World Wars, in London.

The books are:

Sweet Poison
Bones of the Buried
Hollow Crown
Dangerous Sea

And here is the blurb:

Spoiler:
Quote:
Synopsis

Sweet Poison

It is August 1935 and the Duke of Mersham is hosting one of his influential parties, bringing together public figures interested in improving Anglo-German relations. One of his guests is General Sir Alistair Craig VC, who swallows poison in the duke's excellent port and dies just as latecomer Lord Edward Corinth and journalist Verity Browne arrive on the scene. The unlikely pair - the younger son of a duke and a journalist committed to the Communist Party find common ground as they seek for the truth behind the genera's murder and discover that everyone present - including the duke himself - had a motive for wanting Sir Alistair out of the way. First published in hardback in 2000, this classic detective story introducing Lord Edward Corinth and Verity Browne was much acclaimed.

Bones of the Buried

Second in the popular Lord Edward Corinth murder-mystery series; This exciting 1930s murder-mystery is the second in the Lord Edward Corinth/Verity Browne series, following the success of David Roberts' first book Sweet Poison. Corinth returns to London after six months in New York to find his sleuthing partner, journalist Verity Browne, Insisting he investigate a murder in Madrid. It is 1936 and Spain is about to erupt into civil war. Verity is now correspondent for a national newspaper and passionately committed to defending the Spanish republic against the Fascist threat. Her lover, David Griffiths-Jones, a senior figure in the Communist Party, has been convicted of murder and Verity appeals to Edward to help save him from the firing squad, even though she knows he sees him as his rival in love

Hollow Crown

It is October 1936. Lord Edward Corinth is invited by his friend Joe Weaver, the press lord and close friend of the British royal family, to recover certain letters stolen from the king's intimate friend Wallis Simpson. There is no mystery about who has taken these letters - a woman called Mrs Raymond Harkness, a former mistress of the king and a close friend of Edward's.

When Edward goes down to Haling, the country house of conservative MP Leo Scannon where Mrs Harkness is also a house guest, he is far from easy in his mind at the task before him, but he cannot guess that retrieving stolen goods is to be complicated by murder...

Dangerous Sea

Lord Benyon is on the Queen Mary, bound for New York. It is 1937, and his mission is to persuade President Roosevelt to supply Britain with arms and money if it comes to war with Germany. Those who want him to fail will not stop at murder to achieve their aim. But, when Benyon refuses police protection, Special Branch asks Lord Edward Corinth to keep an unofficial eye on him.

However, it is not Benyon who is murdered but a racist senator from South Carolina, who has enraged many of his fellow passengers - not least Warren Fairley, the black singer. But if Fairley is too obvious a candidate, there are other suspects. How about union organiser Sam Forrest, with whom Verity Browne - going to America at the Party's behest to liaise with Communist sympathisers - is so taken? The thrilling denouement is yet another triumph for classic murder-mystery writer David Roberts.

The Lord Francis Powerscourt Omnibus contains the first four books in that series by David Dickinson. This is another historical mystery series, featuring Lord Francis Powerscourt, who is an Irish peer. I've read several in this series too, and also enjoyed them.

The four books are

Goodnight, Sweet Prince
Death and the Jubilee
Death of an Old Master
Death of a Chancellor

Here's the blurb

Spoiler:
Quote:
Synopsis

Goodnight, Sweet Prince

Mystery surrounds the death of Queen Victoria's grandson England, 1892.

Victoria, Queen and Empress, is in the 54th year of her reign, when her grandson Prince Eddy, eldest son of the Prince of Wales, is found slaughtered in his bed at Sandringham. Terrified of more royal scandal, the Prince of Wales and his spindoctors decide to cover up the facts and the murder is disguised as death by influenza.

Lord Francis Powerscourt, an Irish investigator, is privately asked to find the killer. His quest takes him on a journey through the prince's debauched and dissolute past, across Europe to the misty waterways of Venice where, amidst scandal and suicide, Powerscourt finally unravels themystery of the sweet prince's last goodnight.

Death and the Jubilee

The discovery of a headless corpse jeopardises Queen Victoria's glittering Diamond Jubilee!

In this second Lord Francis Powerscourt mystery, London is preparing for the 1897 Diamond Jubilee. But one morning a man's corpse with no head or hands is dragged out of the Thames. He is old, but not destitute. With no clues to his identity, the police ask for Powerscourt's assistance. His investigation leads to a mysterious mansion in Oxfordshire, with classical temples in the gardens and in the house a second corpse, killed in a fire. On the track of the murderer, Powerscourt soon realises that both he and his family are in great danger - and so is the Queen's Jubilee . . .

Death of an Old Master

In May 1901 the Salisbury Galleries announce the biggest exhibition of the Old Master Paintings ever seen in Europe. Excitement is intense. But before it opens, one of Britain's leading art experts, Christopher Montague, is found murdered in his study. When Lord Francis Powerscourt is called in to investigate he finds every book, notepad and scrap of paper has been removed from the scene of the crime. Montague had been working on something that would have rocked the art world. Did his article that claimed a number of the Old Masters had been painted recently by a single hand have anything to do with his death? Powerscourt embarks on an odyssey through a treacherous world of art dealers and picture restorers in pursuit of a master forger. He travels to Sicily where the trail goes cold, but, after the thrills and danger of that wild, lawless isalnd, in a remopte corer of England, the truth is finally revealed.

Death of a Chancellor

Compton Minster is preparing to celebrate a very special anniversary in the year 1901 - a thousand years of Christian worship. But a few weeks before the main ceremonies, a high official of the cathedral, the chancellor, dies in mysterious circumstances, and no on except the doctor and the undertaker is allowed to view the corpse. It then transpires that the chancellor was one of England's richest men. When his sister suspects foul play, Lord Francis Powerscourt is asked to investigate. As Powerscourt paces the ancient cloisters and listens to evensong from the choir stalls, he begins to suspect that a terrible secret lies hidden in the cathedral, one that may have someting to do with the anniversary. Then a chorister is strangles, his body found turning on the great spit in the Vicars Hall kitchen. Powerscourt himself escpaes death by a whisker, as does his wife, Lady Lucy, before he uncovers the astonishing secret of Compton Minster and unmasks a murderer.

The first four books in the Bruno, Chief of Police series by Martin Walker are available as an omnibus. This is an excellent mystery series, set in the Périgord region of France, with food, prehistoric man, and rugby running as themes through the books. I've read and enjoyed all four of these.

The four books are

Bruno, Chief of Police
The Dark Vineyard
Black Diamond
The Crowded Grave

A synopsis is here:

Martin Walker’s mystery series set in the idyllic South of France combines suspenseful plotting, Gallic charm, the region’s delectable gastronomy, and a hero to root for. The Bruno novels have been widely praised for balancing a charming evocation of small-town life in La France Profonde with expert plotting and a seamless incorporation of social and political tensions in modern-day France, as well as for venturing into some of the darker corners of the nation’s history. They are international bestsellers and have delighted readers all over the world.

Anne of Green Gables Anthology--It's Huge and It's Free!

Several days ago I panned Anne of Green Gables, in a post that I made. I said something like "if you listen to it (it was a SYNC audiobook), you should take lots of No-Doz or several cups of espresso beforehand because it is very long and very boring," or something to that effect.

Well, I have considered my ways since then. I come to you (well, actually I'm staying right here where I'm at, but you get the point) with a contrite heart. I wish to make amends.

I found this anthology of Green Gables stories, which anthology I am now posting. It is huge (2352 pages), and it's free. I hope now that you will find it in your heart to forgive this truly, truly penitent man.

Anne of Green Gables Stories: 12 Books, 142 Short Stories, Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, Anne of the Island, Anne's House of Dreams, Rainbow Valley, Rilla of Ingleside, Chronicles and More. -Anne of Green Gables (1908)
-Anne of Avonlea (1909)
-Anne of the Island (1915)
-Anne's House of Dreams (1917)
-Rainbow Valley (1919)
-Rilla of Ingleside (1921)
-Chronicles of Avonlea (1912)
-Further Chronicles of Avonlea (1920)
-The Story Girl (1911)
-The Golden Road (Sequel to The Story Girl, 1913)
-Kilmeny of the Orchard (1910)
-The Watchman and Other Poems (1916)
-The Short Story Collection (1896-1922)
Unfortunately, there are two books in the Anne of Green Gables series which were published later and can't yet be included in this Kindle collection because of copyright restrictions. These are "Anne of Windy Poplars" (1936) and "Anne of Ingleside" (1939).

Note that these are in the public domain in "life+70" countries, since L.M. Montgomery died in 1942. They are only protected by copyright in the US.

Thanks.

But isn't it true that it is legal to download those from, say, an Australian site only if the person is in (and maybe a resident in) that country? If I am in the United States (which I am), wouldn't it would be a violation of U.S. copyright laws to download those from an Australian site? I'm not asking to debate the issue, I'm genuinely asking for information.
