Crash on startup

I am finding Calibre consistently crashes on startup.
OS = Win XP SP3
I have tried this on three other XP PCs and the same happens.

MS Error dialog text
"The main Calibre program has encountered a problem and needs to close..."

When clicking on more details the dialog box displays

Module error QtWebkit4.dll
App ver 0.8.36.0
Module ver 4.7.3.0

If I delete the Calibre User settings it then starts up (once) and then again crashes on subsequent startup attempts

Any ideas on how to fix this
regards
Peter

Make sure you are running the latest version of calibre 0.8.36 and start calibre as described at the bottom of this answer and post the output: http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq....ing-on-windows

Thanks a lot. Deleting Metadata.db has fixed the problem.

That is a bit of a drastic solution! You have deleted the database that Calibre uses to store all it's metadata and to track what books are in it's library. However if it was so badly corrupted that it was stopping Calibre from loading I guess it might have been the only way forward.

There is an option in Calibre under Library->Library Maintenance that can rebuild the library database from the underlying files stored in the Calibre library folder.
