Exclamation Buying a Kindle, but...
I'm from Portugal. This means I cannot order from Amazon.UK and the US Amazon could be a pain in the bottom because of the custom taxes.

Could anyone estimate how much extra would I have to pay if I do order from the US?

Or is anyone else familiar with any EU online store where I can get the device for a reasonable price?

Amazon should tell you the total cost if you add the book to your shopping card, and then go to the check-out. Basically, it will be the price of the Kindle, plus shipping, plus whatever the rate of VAT is in Portugal.

Plus whatever handling fee the shipper charges for "handling" the VAT - in the UK that could be £8 (Royal Mail), £10 most couriers or £1.25 (or 2%) DHL to a domestic address...

I don't think anyone can complain about the VAT but adding €10-12 in handling fees is gouging (in my opinion).

As to the original poster - any friends or family headed to the UK, the Kindle 3/keyboard is widely sold in shops so could be picked up that way...
