Adding K1 content to K2

So I emailed amazon support.....and this is the answer I got...20 minutes later. Not bad!

Hello,

We store all your purchases from the Kindle Store on Amazon.com so you can access your books and other content from multiple Kindles, including Kindle 2. Just make sure you purchase Kindle 2 from the account that your current Kindle is registered to.

Here are your options:

SCHEDULE DELIVERY OF EXISTING CONTENT
If you visit the Manage Your Kindle page (http://www.amazon.com/manageyourkindle) after placing your Kindle 2 order, you'll see your new Kindle 2 listed in the "Download/Send to" choices in the "Your orders and individual charges" section. You can schedule delivery of your existing library before your Kindle 2 even arrives.

DOWNLOAD ARCHIVED ITEMS AFTER KINDLE 2 ARRIVES
When Kindle 2 arrives, you'll see the options "Archived Items" on the Home screen and "View Archived Items" on the Home Menu. Either of these options will allow you to download your Kindle content stored on Amazon.com.

UPDATE SUBSCRIPTION DELIVERY SETTINGS
Subscription content can only be delivered to one Kindle registered your Amazon.com account. You can transfer a periodical subscription from one Kindle for delivery to another in the "Your Active Kindle subscriptions." section of the Manage Your Kindle page (http://www.amazon.com/manageyourkindle).

TRANSFER PERSONAL CONTENT VIA USB
You can use the USB connection on your Kindles to copy personal content to your computer from one Kindle and then drag it to a new Kindle 2.

EMAIL PERSONAL DOCUMENTS
If you visit the Manage Your Kindle page (http://www.amazon.com/manageyourkindle) after placing your Kindle 2 order, you can give your Kindle 2 an e-mail address and verify your list of approved senders. You can e-mail personal documents to be downloaded and waiting for you when your Kindle 2 arrives.

You can view details of the Kindle 2 operations in the Kindle 2 User's Guide. You can download a PDF version from or Kindle Support pages here:

Sounds rather easy to do.

But it is NOT easy to do. I have 14 pages of books - 15 books per page. That's over 200 books and to get them on my Kindle 2 I will have to select "send to" individually for every one of them.

Since you can re-download Amazon books at any time, there is really no need to download them all at once. Just download the ones you want to read, or think you might want to read soon.

Are all your books from Amazon?
If you start now, and the following suggests you can, it won't take that long to do it. Seriously, how long can this take? Just start doing it! I didn't have nearly the amount of books you did, but didn't find anything 'hard' about doing it...

Right... you can go do it right now. Your new kindle should be listed in the mange kindle section. Just select Send to Kindle 2 (or whatever it is called). Once you get your kindle and turn it on all that stuff will download as soon as it connects.

You can start transferring books to your K2 now. You don't have to wait until you have it in hand.

Edit: Oops, I see BOb just said the same thing.

I know - I'm whining. It will only take about 10 minutes. But click, select, click, select, click, select, change page, click, select....

It's so tedious!

I'm not really going to want them all on the Kindle all the time - but someone in another thread made the brilliant suggestion that if you have your full library on your Kindle you can plug in though USB and copy the whole library to a computer as a backup in case the Amazon online media library ever goes away.

I agree. Put in a request to support that they have some type of multi-select for this.

They already have a multi-select in the media library. All the would need to do would be to add a "Send to Kindle XXX" function to the drop down.

There is also the option of downloading Amazon books to your computer for 'back up' and organizing titles. I do this as I travel out of the country a great deal and can still gain access to any of my titles right away.

The unfortunate thing is that, as someone on the Amazon boards (http://www.amazon.com/review/RV0R3AO...#RV0R3AODMRNJZ) has experienced, if you have a broken Kindle and get a new one you can still be screwed out of content you've bought if the publisher pulls the ebook rights from Amazon.

Even backing up to your computer does no good since the backup would be tied to the OLD broken Kindle. and forget getting a refund. At least according to the reviewer in the link above. THAT is a serious issue. You force people to deDRM your content to back it up or you risk losing what you paid for??? serious issue.
