Free: Witness to Death by Dave White (mystery) (Kindle)
I've haven't read this one, but spotted the deal in a twitter re-tweet by a writer I like (Chuck Wendig).
Free on kindle (US) for the next 36 hours Witness to death (main) John Brighton is an ordinary young schoolteacher still hung up on his ex, Michelle. Suspecting her new boyfriend is cheating on her, John decides to follow Frank's Lexus and find out the truth once and for all. Turns out John's in for a major surprise. Frank isn't heading for some sack time with another girl. Instead he drags John into the middle of a shootout on the banks of the Hudson River, and before John knows what's happening, he's knee-deep in bodies. **Rated one of the 12 Best Crime Novels of the Year by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal** “An engrossing, evocative debut novel that will grab most readers from its opening sentences… fans of hard-hitting, uncompromising private investigators will hope that Donne ditches his college dreams and continues to pound the pavement.” Publisher's Weekly (Starred Review) |

Wow! This has gotten some pretty horrible reviews, most for the (reported) pathetic typos and illogical writing.
I give this one a *Wild Turkey Award [Gobble. Gobble.] Don *Wild Turkey Awards are novels that one doesn't have to read in order to rate it. |

I'd have thought that Wild Turkey Awards would be the novels where you had to down shots of whiskey to blot out the memory of reading them.

Yeah, I'd looked at them before posting. Most of the 1-star reviewers had only only 1 review, and the one of them who had the most (7) also gave one star to Mockingjay, so since the book was also averaging 3.71 on Goodreads and Chuck Wendig had recommended it, I figured it was worth posting.
Of course, sometimes you get what you pay for |
