REB 1200 charging batteries

I have an REB1200 that I would love to revive. IT seems I have always had this problem. I can not recharge the battery UNLESS the unit is ON (odd I don't know why) and now since all my batteries are totally flat I can not "charge" the unit up and turn it on.

Suggestions ? is anyone local to South Earstern PA who could make charge my batteries for me ? a way to charge the batteries outside the unit ?

Any suggestions ?

I heard gemstar still has these available for the $35 replacement thing for wonky units ? how do I contact them ? though I now have a sony reader I still would like to keep my 1200 alive :-)

Well, you can get a original battery from here for $80. You could also try to search Google for the battery part number EB750 and see if you can get a better price :-)

my batteries are fine in fact I have 2 brand new never used ones. the problem is the unit itself. it will not charge UNLESS its turned on (I have no idea why it just won't) and since all my batts are too dead to turn on .....

Do you have the lastest firmware?
I heard someplace that some version of the firmware had this problem.

Hmmm not sure thought it would not help me right now since I can not turn it on :-) hehe

if I ever get it on I would be sure to check - I know its new enough that I can put files on the CF card and it will import them ??

Have you tried pluging it in and leaving it overnight?
When I bought mine I also couldn't turn it on (drained battery probably) but after leaving it pluged in I had no problem.
Other then trying this I can only suggest asking someone you know who has a REB1200 to charge your battery on their machine and then putting it on yours and see if it works.
