Sorry to spoil your previous obliviousness - hope it doesn't keep you up at night!

Seriously, though, I would never have imagined you'd get a real response back from Amazon, so maybe I will write them a letter about the missing mystery daily deal section ...see if I get a real response too!

Another freebie by Chester D. Campbell, this one #2 in his Sid Chance series, The Good, The Bad and The Murderous . From Night Shadows Press.

Quote:
Medicare fraud, drug trafficking, a hired killer, a crooked cop, it's a nightmare scenario PI Sid Chance finds himself in when he takes on a tough assignment―prove a young man just out of prison for murder when he was twelve did not commit a new homicide. Everything is thrown upside down when Jaz LeMieux, the wealthy ex-cop working with him on the case, finds herself accused of a despicable crime, and the evidence is damning. When a hit man comes after Sid, all hell breaks loose.

All repeats, but in case you've missed them: I haven't read the Adler one, but have read & enjoyed the first two.

Free
http://www.amazon.com/Last-Dance-Red.../dp/B007PJ1MHY
Last Dance in Redondo Beach, by Michael J. Katz.
backlist from roughly 1990, comedic mystery featuring a sportscaster and a down-on-his-luck PI friend, solving sports-industry murders. Stylistically similar to Roger Simon, Donald Westlake, etc.

$0.99
http://www.amazon.com/KILL-LAWYERS-S.../dp/B007UPTH6Q
Kill All the Lawyers, by Paul Levine. Another comedic mystery, part of the Solomon vs. Lord series. An unlikely pairing (both professionally and romantically) of a straight-laced lawyer with a risk-taking, convention-flouting, corner-cutting partner. Sharp banter between the 2 is the hallmark.

Free
Blood Ties, by Warren Adler, direct from his website:
http://www.warrenadler.com/giveaway
"At a family reunion, the Von Kassel family, who has been engaged in arms dealing for a hundred years, find themselves able to create the most destructive weapon on earth."
Part of his rotational give-away program. (This was free I think in early December--since I haven't visited lately, I'm not sure if it's stayed since then?)
While you're there, take a few minutes to read some of Adler's blog. Very perceptive comments on ebooks, the publishing industry, and laws and regulations affecting same.

A couple of freebies from Endeavor Press today:

Thriller Market Forces by Matt Lynn.

Quote:
A woman’s disappearance.

The collapse of a currency.

A cold yet fanatical financier.

How are they linked to each other – and will they lead to the destruction of the world’s financial markets?

Tom Bracewell is an economist for an investment bank when he comes home one days to find his Estonian wife Tatyana has disappeared.

But where has she gone?

And why?

Sarah Turnbull is a currency analysts who has just been hired by The Leopard Fund, a vast hedge fund run by the ruthless French financier Jean-Pierre Telmont.

But who is Telmont really?

And where did his money come from?

As Tom starts to investigate Tatyana’s disappearance, he starts to wonder if he ever knew his wife – there were trips to Europe and massive Swiss bank accounts of which he knew nothing.

And after he meets Sarah, he realises that Tatyana was somehow linked to Telmont.

As The Leopard Fund stages an audacious attack on the markets, and with stockmarkets collapsing around the world, Tom and Sarah finally uncover the truth.

And in a breathless chase across Europe, they must stay alive – and unlock a secret that may yet destroy the world.
Another novella by G.W. Colkitto The Case of the Missing Heiress (The Sebastian Symes Mysteries)

Quote:
G.W Colkitto’s charming series of Sebastian Symes novellas transports the reader back to the late nineteenth century, a world of gentleman detectives, ingenious thieves, bumbling constables, and cryptic mysteries.

A friend and sometimes rival of two of the best-loved characters in English literature - Dr Watson and Sherlock Holmes - the Sebastian Symes stories are a brilliant addition to the canon of British detective fiction.

In 'The Case of the Missing Heiress', a Sunday afternoon of research for Sebastian Symes is shattered by the arrival of his old friend and family lawyer Ebenezer Bulrush.

He has lost an heiress to the Fitzwarton fortune and faces ruin.

The only man he can turn to find the missing girl and clear his firm's names is Sebastian Symes.

But the great detective soon finds himself embroiled in a tangled tale of love, deception and family feuds - and he will need to use all his wits to find a solution to one of the knottiest mysteries of his career.

Free Matthew Scudder short story by Lawrence Block: Out the Window.

Quote:
I began writing about Matthew Scudder in the mid-1970s. The first novel, The Sins of the Fathers, appeared in 1975, and A Drop of the Hard Stuff—the 17th and most recent—was published in 2011. Over the years Scudder has also been featured in 11 short works of fiction; Out the Window, which first appeared in AHMM in 1977, is the first of them.

Out the Window and A Candle for the Bag Lady kept Scudder alive for me after Dell failed to sell the first three books effectively. There seemed little point in trying to interest another publisher in a series that had already proved unsuccessful, but I couldn't abandon Scudder, and wrote the two novelettes for magazine publication. Then I wrote the fourth novel, A Stab in the Dark, and Don Fine published it at Arbor House, and Scudder was back in business.

Out the Window is included in The Night and the Music, my collection of all 11 Matthew Scudder short stories, available for Kindle or in handsome trade paperback form.

The Big Exit by David Carnoy has been temporarily reduced by Penguin to $2.99. B&N Sony Kobo

Quote:
By the acclaimed author of the remarkable debut novel, Knife Music, The Big Exit is a suspenseful crime novel that keeps the surprises coming right up to the end.

Richie Forman is freshly out of prison. By night, he makes a living impersonating Frank Sinatra in San Francisco’s lounges and corporate parties. But then his ex-best friend—the man who stole his fiancée while he was in prison—is found hacked to death in his garage, and Richie is the prime suspect. In a murder mystery with the twists and turns of a microchip, Carnoy weaves his characters like a master. He has written an authentic, unputdownable thriller that is sure to chill and delight.

Thank you nightbird. I now have 2 of the three books. Since 1 was free in December and 2 is free now, I wonder if the last one will be free next month?

Has anyone read this author?

I think that is a good possibility.

I haven't read this author.

One of today's Kindle deals is the latest book in Thomas Perry's Jane Whitefield series, Poison Flower for $1.99.

Quote:
Poison Flower, the seventh novel in Thomas Perry’s celebrated Jane Whitefield series, opens as Jane spirits James Shelby, a man unjustly convicted of his wife’s murder, out of the heavily guarded criminal court building in downtown Los Angeles. But the price of Shelby’s freedom is high. Within minutes, men posing as police officers kidnap Jane and, when she tries to escape, shoot her.

Jane’s captors are employees of the man who really killed Shelby’s wife. He believes he won’t be safe until Shelby is dead, and his men will do anything to force Jane to reveal Shelby’s hiding place. But Jane endures their torment, and is willing to die rather than betray Shelby. Jane manages to escape but she is alone, wounded, thousands of miles from home with no money and no identification, hunted by the police as well as her captors. She must rejoin Shelby, reach his sister before the hunters do, and get them both to safety.

In this unrelenting, breathtaking cross-country battle, Jane survives by relying on the traditions of her Seneca ancestors. When at last Jane turns to fight, her enemies face a cunning and ferocious warrior who has one weapon that they don’t.
