If Nate is correct and that tablet has an 800X480 screen, I'd rather spend $10 more and get the Kindle Fire 2.

Kindle Fire 2 at $159 would make an excellent tablet for a kid. Since the Fire is a popular product, major case manufactures have made military grade cases for it that "kid-proof" the device quite a bite.

Too bad you're not in Canada... The Source (formerly Radio Shack) is offering Blackberry Playbooks for ridiculous prices. The 16 gb model is on at $129.99, the 32 gb is $149.99 until Sept 23rd. No one can dispute that this is good hardware and pretty likely to be "kid-proof". And it has all the bells and whistles! 2 cameras, usb slot, hdmi port and no access to the more questionable apps available on the Play Store...

But the Playbook doesn't have Google Play, correct? So, what good is it if you can't get apps for it? I picture Blackberry's app store to be about as good and Barnes & Noble's.

Here's a link to Goodereader's list of Playbook apps:
http://goodereader.com/apps/playbook...-android-apps/ There's a fair number although of course not anywhere near what the Play Store has. But for kids, depending on what you want to give them access to, it's got to be better than a no-name tablet and with double the memory and with the cameras, usb slot etc.. at $130 its a great buy (in my opinion)! Lots of space for videos, books and music! |

Actually, it looks like more than what the B&N app store has!

There was a sign in the window of the closest Toys R' Us for this tablet thing. Saw it when I was driving past it to a sporting goods store, and my oldest shouted out "LOOK, DADDY! TOYS R' US!" I saw the sign and was somewhat intrigued, thinking it would be something to look at for some of the picture heavy kids books I have in various eBook formats...
Then I read about it. And then I was quickly reminded why I make it a point to avoid that store. |
