Just Throwing It Out There....
With today's announcement the JK Rowling is partnering with Sony for the Harry Potter ebooks & other content is it a stretch to say that this would confirm that the end is not nigh for the Sony readers?
Am I alone in thinking this or is this wishful thinking on my part? I can't help but think it's not over for Sony in the ereader department. From the official press release: "As the Pottermore Shop develops, it is intended that it should include further products designed specifically for Harry Potter fans, offering a potential outlet for Sony products and services related to Pottermore." A special Harry Potter themed Sony reader??? Squee! OMG can you imagine the sales on that?!?! It'd have to hit that magic price point though of course and $179 for many parents just wouldn't be it I'm afraid. Will the next Sony's be plastic like the rest of them on the market today? hmm... |

Wow! Yes, I think you're right! A Harry Potter themed ereader, with all the books preloaded, would sell like hotcakes, regardless of how good or bad the reader itself is. Just stick an owl on there and sell it.
BUT... what about a Harry Potter themed tablet? Isn't Sony just getting into the tablet market? That way you could have a multimedia version of the ebooks. eP |

I will only buy this stuff if they come with actual flying brooms and working magic wands.
Seriously, I am not a fan of this cross-over theme stuff, but if stuff like this can keep Sony in the physical ereader HW game, I am all for it. |

Huh? The quote that you provide supports the idea of a Potter-themed reader.

First of all, it's not Rawlings, it's Rowling. Secondly what I quoted in the opening post is direct from the JK Rowling Pottermore press release. http://assets.pottermore.com/emcp/do...ase_230611.pdf "As the Pottermore Shop develops, it is intended that it should include further products designed specifically for Harry Potter fans, offering a potential outlet for Sony products and services related to Pottermore." Yes it says potential. Nobody said it was an absolute certainty but we're allowed to get excited and be creative and dream are we not? Sony products related to Pottermore. The announcement of the Harry Potter series finally coming to ebooks. A Harry Potter themed Sony reader isn't that much of a stretch. Apple made a Harry Potter iPod when the audiobooks were first released. So what's your point? |

The author of that article is clearly an idiot. It's amazing they were even able to figure out how to use a computer, assuming that's how they wrote and submitter [submitted] the story that is. ***good golly I can't type today!!*** eesh Last edited by Shopaholic; 06-23-2011 at 05:48 PM. Harry Potter is not a rip-off of The Lord of the Rings. So is every fantasy that uses magic or has elves or goblins or has a quest a rip-off?
