Creating a "custom firmware" for the reader?

Hi,

I'm wondering whether it's somehow possible to create a custom firmware.
One could start with translating all strings to german, spanish or whereever someone is using the reader.

Does anyone know how to accomplish that?

It would be fantastic to have something like Rockbox for the Reader, with UMS mode for easy file transfer, and direct hierarchical file browsing of books.

It would be wonderful to have something like Rockbox but for e-paper readers in general. One of the best thing with Rockbox is the fact that's it is available on multiple devices and is strictly made for music (most company shifted their focus on video now, and support few audio formats and in a bad way, lacking most of the advanced features of Rockbox).

How about porting rockbox itself to the reader? Is boot/flashing a serious problem prior to get the ball rolling? I imagine they would be trilled to try/port it if someone donated a device...
