rtcwake on Kobo?

after enabling Wifi on/off to save battery, the next step would be to really sleep the processor.

linux has rtcwake for this. but when I try it, it does not seem to work
Quote:
rtcwake -a -s 10
rtcwake: /dev/rtc0 not enabled for wakeup events
i am not into this topic yet. anyone an idea?

I haven't tried it myself, but try looking at this thread. From there, it seems you can sleep with these commands:
Code:
echo 1 > /sys/power/state-extended
echo mem > /sys/power/state

but the problem with suspend is, that you don´t get it woken up from there automatically anymore.

thats why rtcwake is normally there for

I also found
echo "+20" > /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm
but this is not implemented as it looks like

when doing a "cat /proc/driver/rtc" it gives this - but I don´t know how to set this alarm

For what it's worth, when the Kobo boots up, it calls /etc/init.d/rcS. In that script is this line:
Code:
/usr/local/Kobo/pickel disable.rtc.alarm

Do you think that is this line that resolved the battery consuming bug?

Out of curiosity, can I ask you why you're trying to sleep the cpu? I think the sleep mode already does that.

sure...
I don´t use nickel. I use a cron job once the hour which collects temperature and forecast data of various sensors around the house.
see here

in between I disable wifi already and the battery lasts around one week.
now I want to go one step further to sleep the whole system and wake it up once an hour - which should extend the battery live even more.

...background is, that the nice display would look stupid with a power cable connected all the time...
:-)

Well, congrats! Do you use it for the house heating?

Do you know what type of arm architecture and Linux kernel Kobo uses? Maybe with Google you can find something interesting searching for ACPI tools.

Have you read my previous post? I think acpid can be used to sleep the Kobo using the power button, as Kobo firmware does.

If I understand correctly, he tries not only to suspend the Kobo but also to wake it up automatically.
Do you have a /sys/class/rtc/rtc0 directory and a wakealarm file on your Glo?
