Serif fonts on the Jetbook

Is there any way to get Serif fonts on the Jetbook? Will it use embedded fonts inside an ePub?

Yes. It was a pleasant surprise to see the serif fonts.

You saw serif fonts in the font list, or you had an ePub with embedded serif fonts?

Sorry. I mean that when I loaded the epubs I'd purchased or downloaded from public domain offerings, they displayed with serif fonts.

For .txt files, you only have the option on the JBL of two sans serif options.

That sucks. I really need a serif font. Are there any hacked firmwares for this thing?

Use Calibre to convert the text file to ePub and embed a font.

Well, if I buy an B&N content, I then need to strip DRM, embed a font and convert. That's more work than one should have to go through to read a book.

Everything else about the Jetbook sounds awesome.

I know you can flash the Libre Pro firmware on the unit and get a serif font, but then you lose B&N DRM content.

It's all a trade off, I guess. I really would like to see one, but no one has them retail anymore it seems.

No, you don't need to do anything with BN content. JBL reads BN's DRMed epub, and it displays embedded serif font.

That's assuming thee is an embedded serif font. There is rarely a font embedded in a book. If there isn't, I have to go through the above list of steps to get serif fonts. And if I choose to read a txt file or html, I'm screwed.

Every epub I've loaded on my JBL has displayed in serif font.

The commercially published ebooks that you can purchase from B&N, called "Nook Books"
are .epub. Generally, these ebooks use the same fonts and other graphic elements as
are used in the paper book. Most nontechnical books use serif fonts, for the majority of
the text. The JBL, since the 0.16e firmware update, uses the Adobe Reader Mobile for
.epub and .pdf files.

I take it that you have not yet seen or used a JBL and are addressing issues that you
feel could effect your satisfaction with the device, should you decide to purchase one.

If the use of a sanserif font in .txt files causes you the grief you claim, then perhaps the
JBL is not for you and you should stick to your Kindle.

I apologize for any pain you may be suffering from having to read this sanserif post.

Luck;
Ken

Just trying to learn as much as I can before I drop down money to buy a Jetbook. That's all. I have a preference for serif fonts when reading for extended periods of time.

The purchased B&N content I have doesn't seem to have fonts in it when I crack it open using Sigil.

I apologize if I have pissed anyone off.

I believe the ADE mobile version always uses a set of internal fonts that are included with the ADE software unless there is embedded fonts present. The included set is serif. It does not use the device default font.

Ok, question..

Would someone be willing to test a purchased eBook I decrypted that I know has no embedded fonts in it on their Jetbook?

And my last dumb question. If I buy the Libre Pro, I can flash the Jetbook firmware on it?
