That's nice to see. More third party providers coming on board will hopefully equate to more content and choices available to us in the long term.

The pricing on that isn't too bad either.

The interesting thing that is listed in this description is the Desktop Manager Software:

The high-performance eFlyBook will include a powerful Windows-based desktop software application in the near future that replicates the look and feel of the eFlyBook device on your PC. This application provides a simple drag+drop content management capability that makes it easy to add your own documents to eFlyBook. While this application will not be available upon initial release, when ready it will be available for download from the eFlyBook website.

This sounds interesting in that one can assume that the "drag+drop content management capability" function would format documents for effective display on the iLiad.

Does anyone know if this or a variant version of desktop software will be made available to us by iRex?

I have put a request in with the eFlyBook people to see if it possible to get just the applicable software and content seeing how I have just received the iLiad today.

It would also be interesting to know if there are any physical hardware or firmware differences between the eFlyBook and the stock iLiad that we have received.

The aviation group are pretty techno geeky as a whole but can be intolerant of device shortcomings. I am wondering if there is a glaring difference in refresh/page turn rates between the eFlyBook and it's associated content and the iLiad.

If anyone is interested:

Talked to the distributer of the eFlyBook. Found out that software/firmware/subscription service is available without purchasing a device.

They are running a firmware that is specific to their applications and has a viewer specifically for the aviation content, which is from what I understand not a format that would be supported in the generic iLiad firmware.

Supposedly inputting a specific registration and connecting to the iDS server would download the appropriate firmware. Their content comes on DVD and they have a barebones content manager right now. They are anticipating the more refined and capable manager to be available in a month.

Could not get too much more information as the phone call was forwarded to their current location, which is at the worlds largest general aviation airshow (Oshkosh) hawking their goods to the minions.

Price for subscription is $250.00 a year for all the content. Their price for the whole package with hardware is $899.00 which includes 6 months of updates.

I would be real interested to see the refresh rates that they have with their firmware and their specific file type.

I am wondering just how much more functionality and stability the eFlyBook firmware has versus what iRex has been releasing to all of us here. Just how more "ready for prime time" is eFlyBook's firmware from what has been released to us here?

I just received the latest edition of AOPA Pilot and they already have a full page add for the eFLYBook. This magazine reaches all Aircraft Owners and Pilot's Association (AOPA) members as well as additional distribution. Hopefully this can help drive sales and further development.
