Suchmaschine/Datenbank für Autoren?

Hallo

Ich hatte schon mehrmals den Fall, daß ich Infos über Autoren gesucht habe, aber nix gefunden habe. Besonders die Lebensdaten wären von Interesse, um zu wissen, ob ein Buch gemeinfrei sein könnte oder nicht.

Ich hab jetzt gerade den aktuellen Fall, daß ich ein Buch im örtlichen offenen Bücherregal - aber das ist in einem extrem schlechten Zustand. Der Einband fehlt, und einige Seiten sind lose. Ich bin mir am überlegen, das Buch per Einzelblatteinzug (es ist ja eh schon ziemlich kaputt) einzuscannen und zu digitalisieren, aber ich weiß nicht, ob die Autorin noch lebt und falls nicht (was ich eher vermute, angesichts des Alter des Buches) wann sie gestorben ist. Im aktuellen Fall geht es um Irmgard Seyfarth ... aber ich hatte schon öfters den Fall, daß ich Informationen über Autoren gesucht, aber nicht gefunden habe.

Irmgard Seyfarth, Geburtsname vermutlich Leihener, hat Publikationen um 1959/60 herum und wahrscheinlich auch um diesen Zeitpunkt herum geheiratet:
"Ursel, das Försterkind d. Bekenntnis e. Mädchens zum Wald, zur Natur u. seine Liebe zu d. Tieren"

Die Wahrscheinlichkeit der Gemeinfreiheit sinkt mit diesen Fakten schon extrem gegen 0. Guck doch mal bei Facebook , wenn die noch lebt, dann isse heute vermutlich erst um die 80 herum.

Ansonsten "Worldcat" oder "Deutsche Bibliothek".

O.k., danke, also brauche ich mir wohl nicht die Mühe zu machen, das Buch zu digitalisieren.

Ist manchmal echt interessant, wenn es um Gemeinfreiheit geht. Ich hatte neulich auch 2 Bücher, bei denen ich mir Gedanken machte, wegen Digitalisierung. Das eine handelte um Erlebnisse im 1. Weltkrieg, und ich war mir recht sicher, daß es gemeinfrei wäre ... aber der Autor starb erst 1985, also dauert es noch viele Jahre, bis es gemeinfrei ist.
Und beim anderen Buch ging es um Tiere, und am Anfang des Buches stand, daß der Autor 1966 einen Sonderstempel der Post anläßlich seines 100 Geburtstag bekommen hatte - wenn er da noch gelebt hätte, dann wäre es natürlich auch nicht gemeinfrei. Er starb aber bereits 1916 - und das Buch ist bei MR längst online.

Auf jeden Fall noch mal "Danke"

Naja, so ist das eben. Auch auf den Ulysses von James Joyce auf Deutsch (mein Paradebeispiel) werden wir noch etwas warten müssen. Der Übersetzer (Übersetzung von 1923) starb erst in den 60ern....

Ja, solche Probleme kenne ich auch. Wobei, neulich hab ich einen Bericht in einer Zeitung (Stern?) gelesen, über eine Neu-Übersetzung von Hemingways "Der alte Mann und das Meer". Scheinbar haben sowohl die alte, als auch die neue Übersetzung immer wieder kleine "Seltsamheiten" ... Und ähnliches hab ich schon von Moby Dick von Melville gehört. Nicht zu vergessen, Terry Pratchett und die deutschen Übersetzungen ...
Da überlegt man sich wirklich, ob man nicht besser gleich das Original liest (wenn man die Sprache kann), dann liest man auch, was der Autor gemeint hat, nicht der Übersetzter ...

Vielleicht ein wenig OT, aber: Es ist doch gar nicht so uninteressant, in Erfahrung zu bringen, was der Übersetzer gemeint haben könnte..

Ich persönlich denke, dass Übersetzungen literarischer Texte duraus den Status selbständiger Kunstwerke erhalten können. Denn wie soll man das anders bewerten, wenn nicht als Kunstwerk, als sprachschöpferische Leistung?

Da gibt es eben unterschiedliche Talente und Fähigkeiten. Es gibt Menschen, die gar nicht übersetzen können, auch wenn sie die Zielsprache exakt beherrschen. Es fällt ihnen einfach schwer, den Sprachduktus eines Schriftstellers in einer anderen Sprache zu rekonstruieren. - Und es gibt Menschen, denen es sehr viel Freude bereitet, so etwas zu tun.

Ich denke, man darf nicht dem Irrglauben verfallen, eine literarische Übersetzung sei austauschbar. Wenn Du drei Übersetzungen eines Textes hast, dann geht es auch nicht so sehr um die Frage, welche "näher am Text" sei (obwohl das auch eine interessante Frage sein kann), sondern es geht dann darum, welche aus rein künstlerischer Sicht für sich genommen die Beste ist..
