RCA Lexi
This device was actually announced on 6 January, but I didn't have time to go see it until today. From the press release:
Quote:
There were 2 models on display, the EB 1060 and the EBW 1060 (it has wifi). They were identical, and only had one button, which was a rocker switch on one side of the touchscreen. The screens are 6" e-ink. Since these were mock ups I can't comment on the affect the touchscreen had on the screen quality. The Lexi is supposed to have an accelerometer; this means it can be turned upside down and used in the other hand. The Lexi comes with 2GB of storage. The mock ups had a SD card slot, a microphone, a headphone port, and USB (client). The Lexi is going to use Adobe, of course, and the non Wifi model is supposed to be released in May with a retail of $229. The Wifi model will be released later and the retail price is unknown. It will be sold at B&N. Last edited by Nate the great; 01-12-2010 at 09:08 PM. |

Looks like a rocketbook, of course. A futuristic REB.

Actually peeking under the hood while I was there showed that this was or should have been a working prototype but the battery ran down and nobody recharged it. With E Ink a battery discharge makes it look like a mock up.

In which case, the aesthetics leave a lot to be desired, IMHO.

I had a good talk with the people from RCA. It seems like a nice device actually. The units there were not the final device. The poster in this picture
shows the touch spots that will be on the final version including a home button as well as up/down/select . The price is awfully nice for a 6inch model and the wifi version will allow pushing subscription content to the device. Last edited by Dulin's Books; 01-11-2010 at 09:00 PM. |

You have to wonder what David Sarnoff's ghost was up to at CES ... is this where the visionary's legacy has landed?

I'm not saying you're wrong; just pointing out that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. |

and apparently the left hand is the only one allowed to turn buttons.

On a second word, I think someone mentioned this not being the final device model, could we see a more Rocketbook esque reader pretty much the same size?

I'm wondering if Fictionwise will sell it like they did the 1150. I loved the ergonomics on the EB1150 and Fictionwise gave an incentive like BoB does when I bought it.

to me that bar felt better than the one on the Irex DR800. could have been just a difference in usage but the Irex one felt very flimsy.
