Where can I find a Kindle in a store?
Does anyone know of an indie bookstore or small retailer that carries the Kindle or Kindle Fire?
Last fall Amazon launched a new program called Amazon Source. This program was supposed to enable small retailers to sell the Kindle hardware and get a cut of ebook sales. Here's the fun part: Amazon says that they have several dozen retailers in the program, but aside from the first two stores, I can't find any retailers who have joined the program. And Amazon isn't naming names. Sure, I know that Best Buy, Staples, and other chains have Kindle hardware, but I can't find any indie retailers (other than ones which started carrying the hardware before Amazon Source launched). Does anyone know of a local retailer or bookseller who has Kindle hardware? Thanks! |

In Germany, Media Markt had Kindle and Kobo readers. Now they have nothing but Trekstor. In the Netherlands, both Kindle (hard to find) and Kobo (easy) seem to be out of stock almost everywhere.
I think something new is afoot. |

They used to have them in Wal-Mart along with the other e-readers but I haven't seen one in there for months now.

Bestbuy carries them. Mine has them in stock. I saw one in Office Depot as well.

Nate is referring to the program where small businesses can sell Kindles and get a commission on the ebooks purchased on those readers:
http://www.digitalbookworld.com/2013...eaders-ebooks/ ...the offer was, of course, rejected by all the bookstores that are boycotting all titles from Amazon publishing: http://www.wired.com/2013/11/kindle-insults-indies/ Still, Amazon got what they wanted; a bit of protection against further bookseller lawsuits. http://the-digital-reader.com/2013/1.../#.U99z4Y7D_MI Even summary dismissals cost billable hours so this was cheaper. If Amazon did that then we would know they don't have very many partners. That would be embarrassing for them.

I've only seen Kobo e-readers in small bookstores around here.
Best Buy carries the Kindle line of readers and the Fire tablets but you specified "small" and BB certainly doesn't qualify as that. |

I bought mine at Best Buy. They aren't at many stores that Amazon feels directly compete with them. They seen to be in places that sell electronics but aren't "everything" stores.
