Funny as it may be, the comic might hold a lot of truth. Many innovations are preceded with pre-ideas often in popular books/movies/series. Especially sciencefiction is read by techno-enabling people around the world. The hitchhikerguide might indeed have been an important milestone to the popularity of the idea of eReading.
