I'll experiment with that technique in Word. So far, I've only needed very basic things, and CSS seemed like the easier way to go, but you never know

You are relying on "position: relative", that's not a very wise choice... You should use "line-height: 0" with "vertical-align: sub" and "vertical-align: super" instead, or simply with <sub> and <sup>.

Thanks, no one else's suggestions used 'relative' either

I'll have to be more careful in copying code fragments from the web.
