Classic Adobe Digital Editions - multiple devices ?

With the recent announcement by Sony of migrating to ePub by the end of the year, and the shipping of the Nook in December, I started thinking about how all of this was potentially going to converge onto the Adobe Digital Editions software installed on the family desktop computer.

My question is - how will ADE handle all these DRM services and ebook stores with respect to DRM support for multiple family eReader devices all connected to the same family desktop computer ?

ie - DRM sources -
Overdrive library downloads
Sony ebook store
B&N ebook store

ie - devices -
Sony eReaders
B&N Nook

ADE and a device can only be activated to a single AdobeID. On desktop computers this is done by the OS user (different users can have different AdobeIDs). On the devices you are limited to just one AdobeID. You can authorize up to 6 computers and 6 devices with an AdobeID.

When you purchase ACS4 protected content it will be licensed to that AdobeID, and you will be able to transfer it to any computer/device authorized to that AdobeID (permissions allowing).

B&N Content is going to be slightly different. There are currently no plans to support the eReader content in ADE (or through RMSDK - the software for devices, and that ADE uses for rendering content), however B&N has announced plans to switch over to using ePub, but that ePub will done with a slightly different DRM scheme using a username and password (your name and CC#). This scheme is supported in the 9.1 version of the RMSDK which hasn't been release yet to the device manufacturers. Also it is not supported in the current version of ADE (1.7.1). We (Adobe) have not announced when ADE will include support for this. Until then you will only be able to read B&N content on B&N branded software and devices (nook). The upside to this scheme is that there are no device limits (you can view the content on as many devices as you have - and that have the software for it).
