Whispersync not working with Calibre ebooks

I tried everything and I'm getting mixed results.

Whispersync will either:

1- Not work at all between the 3 devices (PW2, iPhone, iPad) or...
2- Work between the iOS devices but not with the PW2 or...
3- Work fine between all 3 devices

I still can't pinpoint the problem.

One thing I got used to do is cleaning the EPUBs before converting them to MOBI. I use the Modify ePub plugin with the following settings:



Am I stripping something that might be preventing Whispersync from working correctly?

You would have to sync the Paperwhite before switching to the iPhone.

Also, on the MYC&D page, to see personal documents, you have to select Docs, instead of Books.

I've finally found something that gets Whispersync working for me. I have no idea why it works after this but it just does.

I keep all my Calibre eBooks in two formats: EPUB and MOBI. All I did was:

1- delete all EPUB files, I was then left with MOBI files only;
2- convert those MOBI files to EPUB;
3- delete all MOBI files, I was then left with EPUB files only;
4- convert those EPUB files to MOBI.

Unorthodox, cumbersome, ...but I got it working. I've tested with 7 MOBI ebooks that where giving me problems before and presto, Whispersync is working just fine. Just converting EPUB>MOBI or reconverting MOBI>MOBI didn't fix it for me, I had to go MOBI>EPUB>MOBI as described to get it working.

There was probably some sort of gremlin in the original MOBI. Reconverting fixed it up.

Perhaps similar to the way certain books will simply throw a random fit and jam up the Kindle's indexer.

What does it Cost to send books to Amazon so they will be on the cloud?

My page say it Costs Very confusing. I mean IF I get a free book elsewhere then I put it on the cloud thru their email & they charge as much as the ebook purchased from amazon then whats the point. So I never used it. NOW You say it FREE!?!?! OKKK

Will they do the same for Audilbe? Turn my MP3 books into Audible? IF they do would you know the Cost if any?

If you transfer over WiFi it costs you nothing. I've never had a fee for anything I've sent to a Kindle, I've only ever used WiFi. I believe there's possibly (?) a fee if you're using Amazon's conversion service?

There is a charge if you use 3G, instead of wifi to send documents via email to your kindle.

Whispernet Delivery Options

You can change document delivery options for your Kindle devices or set the maximum charge for a single personal document sent wirelessly over Whispernet to your Kindle with 3G support. Personal documents exceeding the maximum charge will not incur a fee and will only be available for delivery via Wi-Fi or USB transfer

You find that under settings and scroll down. Under the text I just quote there is the option to set the maximum you can be charged, I have had that set to 0.00 for years so in case you send something and you don't have wifi, it will not try to send it with 3G and just wait until you are in wifi range again.

Email your ebooks to @free.kindle.com instead of @kindle.com to avoid unexpected Whispernet charges when you're on 3G. It will then only deliver the ebooks when you connect to Wi-Fi.

May I ask which version of Send to Kindle for PC folk are using?

My reason for asking is that I have both 1.0.1.239 and 1.0.1.240.

The wording has changed between the versions but both work.

However, taking The Spirit Eater by Rachel Aaron as an example, when I use 1.0.1.239, The Title shows correctly as The Spirit Eater, with the Author as Aaron, Rachel.

When I upgrade to 1.0.1.240, the Title shows as The Spirit Eater - Rachel Aaron, and the Author is shown as Bernard Speight (my registered name). I can circumvent this by amending the entries manually before I send, but I cannot see any way of getting the app to show the information correctly automatically.

For the time being, I have reverted to 1.0.1.239, and this works properly and consistently.

Does anyone else experience this problem?
