Redundant topic line
This is a tiny little problem I noticed a long time ago while reading The Economist. Normally, Each article in the TOC of economist.com has two topic lines, like:
Robot ethics Morals and the machine So in Calibre, we get Robot ethics: Morals and the machine But sometimes, the there's no red line, especially in technology quarterly section or if it's a correction article, like: Correction: International banking In this case, Calibre would put the red topic line of the previous article to it. For example: Free exchange Silicon sally Correction: International banking Therefore becomes, Free exchange: Silicon sally (which is right) and Free exchange: Correction: International banking (which is confusing at first sight). In the technology quarterly section of Jun 2nd quite many articles were affected by this:http://www.economist.com/printedition/2012-06-02 (this first article in technology quarterly has a red line Monitor , so all the following articles ended up beginning with Monitor. I think there should be a quick fix to it. Can anyone help? Last edited by Steven630; 06-22-2012 at 10:27 AM. |

I had a quick look and there is nothing in the markup to differeniate them from an article within the subsection (like the examples in the monitor subsection you gave). You'd have to either handle them on a case by case basis e.g if 'Correction' in title: ..., or ask them to change their markup to make it more obvious that they weren't part of the above subsection.

A subsection can have multiple articles (as is the case in the 'Monitor' example you gave). These also have a blank line.

I guess you could follow the article and check for a subsection in the actual article.

Indeed. I didn't realize that Monitor is actually a subsection for multiple articles. All of a sudden, the problem seems "acceptable". Opening each link to see if the article belongs to a section is a good idea. (Usually, however, a red line is just for a single one.)

By the way, is there any way to change the publish date in metadata to the date of the issue rather than downloading date?
