Replacement Battery
Does anyone know where I can get a replacement battery for a PRS-600?
Ebay seems to only have PRS-500/505 batteries, can these be used in the 600? |

No idea, but it should still be under warranty. I just called Sony today because my 600 is acting weird. He seems to think it's the battery and is sending a replacement.

search for the service manual here in the Sony section. At least it should tell you what battery you need (the technical term Sony uses instead of Googling "Sony touch battery"). Maybe this brings you further.

If the battery for the 600 is the same as the 505, you can get a replacement battery at the above link. |

And the postage costs to send it back to the US isn't worth it. The 600 battery is the same voltage as the 500/505 (3.7v) - but i'm not sure about the size and plug. Edit: actually they're different. PRS-505 has 2 wire/2 pin. PRS-600 is 3 wire Last edited by STReNT; 05-13-2010 at 06:13 PM. |

A previously posted service manual indicates the battery assembly for the PRS-600 is part number A-1732-035-A.
If you go to https://servicesales.sel.sony.com/ec.../web/index.jsp and enter the part number in the search box and select "part number" in the drop down box, you will see if they are in stock and the price. At the moment, they are not in stock and the price would be $76.15 plus shipping. (Ouch!) The part numbers for the battery are indeed different for the PRS-505 and the PRS-600. |

So it seems that since disconnecting the battery and then reconnecting it and doing a full charge - my issues have been fixed!
I've now been using it for 3 days and the battery indicator is still full. Previously I only averaged about 400 page turns. Sometimes it would go flat within an hour of charging. So for those having battery issues that can't get warranty - I'd recommend discharging the unit completely, disconnect the battery for 5-10 minutes, reconnect it and then do a full charge. |

Actually you don't need to discharge it.
Just popping it open and disconnecting and reconnecting works as well. I did this to sort out the short battery life on my reader a little while after I bought it sometime last year. I did post in a thread on this site about my fix...but it seems to have been overlooked/lost till now |

Sounds like a good one. I have to remember this in case I need it some time.
Is it hard to disassemble the reader and to put it back together again (like do you break stuff easily, do you lose stuff, etc...). |

It's pretty simple.
Take the 2 screws out of the back and then slide the cover to the side. |

No need to remove anything else.
The battery is held in place with some stick stuff, so if you want to remove it you have to pry a little bit. But, you don't need to take the battery out to disconnect it. Here's a photo of the unit once the cover is off. Battery is in the top right. And the battery itself. |

I guess you can just go online with the dimensions of the battery and the type (was it Li-ion?) and order one that fits instead of going after the assembly number stated in the service manual.

What are the dimensions (in millimetres) anyways?
