Problems updating in Linux with slow connection
For the last few months I've had to deal with a really slow internet connection. Due to the large size of the calibre update file, it often fails to finish downloading because of hiccups in the connection, which forces me to start all over again. With the awful connection over here, that's a real pain. Is there any way to implement a 'wget -c' type continue download option instead of starting over the entire file from the beginning?

You can download the tarball manually and extract it into /opt/calibre. The files are available in calibre's sourceforge and google code pages.

Oh. That's all I have to do? There's that big warning on the download page about the risks of installing from source - I take it this is different b/c its just updating? or no?

The tarball is not the source, it contains the binaries. Be sure to choose the right tarball, for a 32-bit system the one with i686 for the 64 bit system the one with x86_64 in its name.
