Karma for Kovidgoyal
Yesterday my eye just happened to fall on one of Kovid's post.....and I noticed his Karma.
Folks, this is the person who gave us Calibre. This is the person who answers every question posted, never mind that I can't understand the answers most of the time, those who ask the questions do and thats what matters. What kind of world do we live in where someone like me has more Karma than Kovidgoyal? Please understand I am not saying others on this board aren't important also......their time will come. But this injustice must be made right!! Lets give Kovid Karma, and post a quick note here giving your thoughts about this valuable asset to our community. I'll start. Thanks for Calibre, Kovid! Even tho I'm still on version 5, it works perfectly for me, (thanks to Leep for encouraging me to use it) and I love the organization. Thanks for answering questions........ |

Yes, Calibre is an amazing bit of software, and looks like it's steadily improving. By the time I come to switch over to ePub, I expect that the Mobipocket->ePub conversion in Calibre will be accurate enough to make it completely painless.

I'd like to join in on the thanks for such a great piece of software which gets updated almost instantly when someone comments a new need / wish.
Keep it up Kovid I for one would be lost without Calibre. |

Kovid, your quick and continued responses to those utilizing calibre is greatly appreciated. The many grateful comments about calibre is working toward convincing a non techie (me) to just finally go ahead and try it.
Thank you for your continued participation on MR and for making calibre freely available for the many. |

Calibre out and out ROCKS. Thanks, DG, for starting this thread. I recently had occasion to use Calibre as a reader/viewer, instead of only a conversion tool. I had never tried this aspect of it before, and let me tell y'all, it's the best ebook reader/viewer I've ever used. Great Job, Kovid..keep up the great work!

One of the problems Kivid suffers from is that many people gave him karma long ago when their karma giving levels were lower. A lot of the people he helps are just starting out and can give only a few karma points (remember back to the start when you were asking questions and when you gave karma it was just one or two points?)
It is human nature to to not give karma twice for the same thing. So even though Kovid improves Calibra (and the name it went by before that), most people who use the program will not give karma for it again. The update/new version notices occur, not in MobileRead forums; but, as a popup when you start Calibre. Some time ago Fictionwise adopted Calibre as their conversion tool of choice for making the LRF multi-format ebooks they offer. It has been a significant source of revenue for them since. (Well, at least from me it has as I have purchased more there than I have from the Sony Store.) So this Labor Day weekend as you watch and pledge money to Jerry Lewis and the MD Telethon, take a few moments and give what you have or all that you have in karma to Kovid. You will sleep better tonight knowing that you have done the right thing. |
