Welcome, The_Book_Doctor! I'm amazed you made it all the way through! This is one heck of a thread!! I am in the thick of the excitement in Changes. I'll be ready and waiting for Cold Days -- Might even rewatch the series before I'm done! |

Ghost Story ... is it just me?
I was/am a HUGE Jim Butcher fan. I liked both his series, Codex and Harry. But, was it just me or is Ghost Story the worst book he's written to date? I read the book and then I unfortunately got suckered into the audio book with a promise of James Marsters. Well, it's not read by Marsters but by John Glover. eeeooowww... Bad press, I found out. Anyway, I loved all other 12 books but GS was just the worst. In the words of Amadeus' emperor, Joseph II,
'too many notes'.. In this case, too many words. and that MOLLY 'imagination' scene was silly. I believe the audio book was poorly done...cutting off in the middle of the sentences and the last CD seemed to just end. I no longer have the printed book, so I can't compare. I am not really looking forward to the rest of Butcher's works. This one just left a bad taste... |

I am about to start Ghost Story for the second time. I enjoyed it before, but maybe this time I will notice the "flaws" you point out. I know my husband didn't like it as much as the others, either, but he didn't like the whole premise. Spoiler:
Once he got past that he thought it was okay.
There are so many wonderful books and authors out there -- thank goodness no one is forcing us (outside of school, and maybe book clubs! ) to read anything we don't like! |

Personally I liked Ghost Story, especially those little things we learn about Bob.
But it certainly feels different than the other books in the series (save Changes perhaps) so I'm not surprised that some found it disappointing. I guess with Molly Imagination you mean Spoiler:
if so, yes I could have done without the Star Trek theme.

Thank you for the welcome. Yes, reading through it completely took me multiple hours interspersed with 3 breaks but it proved to be quite interesting and worthwhile. I read Changes the week it was released, the same with Ghost Story and I'm quite looking forward to the release of Cold Days

The_Book_Doctor-So which one is it? Was a fan or am a fan? Spacechik-was it just me or is Ghost Story the worst book he's written to date? The_Book_Doctor-Of the folks participating in this thread Id say it was just you. Spacechik-it's not read by Marsters but by John Glover. eeeooowww... The_Book_Doctor-John Glover did a fine job in my opinion and on very short notice. Spacechik-I believe the audio book was poorly done...cutting off in the middle of the sentences and the last CD seemed to just end. The_Book_Doctor-I disagree. Spacechik-I am not really looking forward to the rest of Butcher's works. The_Book_Doctor-Well that's your choice of course. Most everyone who participates here in this thread seems to be looking forward to the next Dresden book, Cold Days. Spacechik-This one just left a bad taste... The_Book_Doctor-Not me. Why did you post this? It comes off, in my opinion, as a troll considering where you chose to post it. Last edited by The_Book_Doctor; 08-11-2012 at 04:10 PM. |

May I ask after which book of the series you became a fan of it?
I just read the first two books and I am quite impressed by the sheer number of passionate Dresden Files fans in so many literature forums. |

I just finished the third book. I don't think I'll go for the fourth. I dunno, it just doesn't fly with me for some reason. Spent a lot of time thinking "Why am I even reading this" and that's when I have to step back and go for something else. It's strange because I usually have no complaints about stories with lots of wizbangs and the occasional naked chick

"Ghost Story" reminded me a little of that Bill Cosby movie "Ghost Dad".
