Question Kindle managing Swedish letters?

Hi everybody,
im located in Sweden and am planning
to purchase a Kindle dx (international) for my first e-reader device.

One thing im wondering is how will it handle the 3 swedish letters
å ä ö?

While most of my reading material will be in english there are a few
that might be in swedish.

Theres a swedish e-book store that has some swedish e-books
in mobi format.

Will it display fine or will that have some sort of negative impact on
the reading experience?

It displays Swedish symbols without any problems. I bought the two Kepler books from adlibris and converted them with calibre. All words displayed correctly on my kindle 2i.

Well it certainly should considering Stieg Larsson's trilogy is the biggest Kidle seller ever.

You're Swedish and haven't heard about Stieg Larsson?

You live in a cave or something? ;-)

Oh I was just pointing out how ironic it would be if Kindle couldn't handle that text. I don't really know if they do or not. Larsson's real life/death story is almost as intriguing as his books.

You can also find books in epub format without encryption at adlbris/bokus/et al. Those books can easily be converted for the Kindle using Calibre. May lose some formatting but will be perfectly readable.

There is however one limitation - it might be corrected in a future firmware update - while the Kindle displays å, ä and ö just fine, you can't do annotations or searches for words with those characters embedded. The Kindle 3 comes with full Unicode support, including double-byte characters, but it is still unclear how input will work.

What format do you select to buy when shopping from Adlibris for use on Kindle? I just ended up in some strange pages where you had to enter a PID for locking down Mobi format books to a specific device...

Buy the EPUB version and then format shift it to mobi using Calibre. Given the civilized way the Swedes have approached DRM, that's all there is to it.

eReader in Sweden

So I want to get one. Waterstones and WH Smith in the UK say they won't allow ebook purchases here. Amazon say I have to change to the US store. I wonder if it is OK, but I wouldn't be able to purchase real books from the UK then I think.
If I have a Kindle sent from the UK, will I be able to register it here and download UK books?
It is all confusing to me I'm afraid,
Thanks

There is no special Amazon store for Sweden, so you have to buy from the US store, after setting your country to Sweden. Books available in Sweden will then be purchasable. You cannot buy from the amazon.uk store unless you are in the UK.
