Calibre not displaying SD card on prs-505
I have come to move a couple of books using the latest Calibre 0.7.8 and when I plug in my prs-505 it shows the device but not the SD card ?!?!? It worked 2 weeks ago when I last uploaded 3 books to the SD card. If I take the card out and plug it directly into the laptop it displays the contents and the prs-505 also displays the books stored on there. Is there some switch in the new ver of Calibre I have not set to display the SD card or something I can reset to make it work ?!?!? I did have a quick browse of the forum but didn't trip over anything similar except for entries in 2008 which were due to be fixed with the next version then!!
Thanks Bob |

What OS+version are you running?
When you plug in the 505 with the card in the sony, do you get a drive mount point (a drive letter on windows) for both main memory and the card? If you do not, then the problem is in your 505, and I suggest hard resetting it. If you do, then start calibre and run preferences -> advanced -> debug device connection and post the output here. |

I am running Windows XP SP3 on a laptop and Calibre V0.7.8 When I plug the 505 into the laptop I do see the internal storage and the SD card as separate drives. I have also doe a reset to no avail (Paper clip in the hole in the middle of the back casing). The 505 sees the SD card and accesses the books on there with no problem.
Included is the Debug device connection file Version: 0.7.8 USB devices on system: [u'usb\\root_hub&vid8086&pid27ca&rev0002', u'usb\\root_hub&vid8086&pid27cb&rev0002', u'usb\\root_hub&vid8086&pid27c8&rev0002', u'usb\\root_hub&vid8086&pid27c9&rev0002', u'usb\\root_hub20&vid8086&pid27cc&rev0002', u'usb\\vid_04b3&pid_3003&rev_0001', u'usb\\vid_04b3&pid_3003&rev_0001&mi_00', u'usb\\vid_04b3&pid_3003&rev_0001&mi_01', u'usb\\vid_04b3&pid_3004&rev_0001', u'usb\\vid_04b3&pid_3108&rev_0900', u'usb\\vid_04b3&pid_4486&rev_0001', u'usb\\vid_054c&pid_031e&rev_0229', u'usb\\vid_0d49&pid_7310&rev_0125'] Drives detected: (0) J:\ ~ USBSTOR\DISK&VEN_SONY&PROD_PRS-505/CE&REV_1000\0800461000A2B9F0&0 Looking for ALEX Looking for ANDROID Looking for AVANT Looking for AZBOOKA Looking for BLACKBERRY Looking for BOOQ Looking for BOOX Looking for COOL_ER Looking for CYBOOK Looking for DBOOK Looking for E52 Looking for E71X Looking for EB511 Looking for EB600 Looking for EBK52 Looking for ECLICTO Looking for EDGE Looking for ELONEX Looking for ESLICK Looking for FOLDER_DEVICE_FOR_CONFIG Looking for GER2 Looking for HANLINV3 Looking for HANLINV5 Looking for ILIAD Looking for INVESBOOK Looking for IPAPYRUS Looking for IREXDR1000 Looking for IREXDR800 Looking for IRIVER_STORY Looking for ITALICA Looking for ITUNES Looking for JETBOOK Looking for KINDLE Looking for KINDLE2 Looking for KINDLE_DX Looking for KOBO Looking for MENTOR Looking for N516 Looking for N770 Looking for N810 Looking for NEWSMY Looking for NOOK Looking for NUUT2 Looking for PALMPRE Looking for PDNOVEL Looking for POCKETBOOK301 Looking for POCKETBOOK360 Looking for PRS505 u'usb\\vid_054c&pid_031e&rev_0229' Looking for README Looking for S60 Looking for SHINEBOOK Looking for SNE Looking for SWEEX Looking for TECLAST_K3 Looking for THEBOOK Devices possibly connected: SONY Device Interface, Trying to open SONY Device Interface ... Calibre is clearly not seeing two drives. As calibre doesn't see the card, there isn't much I can do from the device driver standpoint to help connect to it. Perhaps someone else with a 505 can chime in with other ideas.
Grasping at straws: when you say you see both drives, do both of them have a drive letter? Has anything else changed on the laptop? Did the anti-virus change? For example, is it possible that someone installed new Sony desktop SW? Is it possible that Sony SW is running? |

fwiw Calibre has no problems with the (2Gb, fat32) SD card in my PRS-505.
I'm running Ubuntu though, and have no easy access to winXP to test it there. |

I also have a 2 GB FAT32 SD card in my 505, and calibre has no problems with it. I would look seriously at other parts of your system.

I have had this problem for a while with the SD cards in both my PRS505 and PocketBook360.
I raised a ticket for it, #5625, a couple of months ago. The SD card is detected fine by Windows and I can use the Save-to-Disk feature quite happily. The card just doesn't show up in Calibre's Library window. It turned out that it was something to do with the card being detected too slowly by my PC. By the time it had connected calibre had already moved on. This was demonstrated by starting Calibre with either Reader already connected. Then the SD card appears in the library window with no problems. I have to admit the SD card in my Sony is a bit rubbishy, I mainly use it for screencaps. The microSD card in my PB360 is a Kingston 1Gb, not exactly cutting edge but not that bad. Kovid said (quite rightly) that he did not want to slow Calibre down for everyone else, so we left it at that. I see that my ticket has been added to recently - in Russian - so when I can get a translation I will see if it's anything interesting. ...Ooh err... wish I hadn't bothered it looks like some kind of porn has been added Last edited by jackie_w; 07-15-2010 at 07:44 PM. @streerp: could you try jackie_w's suggestion and post back what happens? Plug in your 505, wait until windows has mounted both the card and main memory, then start calibre.

Cracked it. My appologies for suspecting Calibre ... it was a mapped network drive that was pinching the drive letter previously used for the SD card on my laptop. I remapped the SD card so it didn't conflict and it now works fine. I hadn't added books since mapping the drive but hadn'#t suspected that because any other USB device just grabs the next available drive letter ... well normally anyway.
Thanks for the advice and quick support ... great site and great tool in Calibre and I still love my PRS-505 even though it can wind me up sometimes!!! Cheers Bob |

Sorry Should have thanked both chaley and jackie_w for their suggestions ... it was looking at how it had connected as per Jackie's post that started me thinking about which drives were which ... it can get busy with mapped network drives and USB and 505 and Camera plugged in there!!!
Thanks again Bob |
