It's about time! I'm surprised they didn't act sooner to keep Canadians buying in Canada (and paying sales tax).

This is wonderful news. Ebook prices are getting ridiculous and we don't get many of the sales the U.S. gets.

Excellent.
The price in Canada for ebooks has been ridiculous for some time now, to the point where I've gone back to physical books. Hopefully this results in more reasonable pricing. It's unfortunate that it doesn't sound like the Competition Bureau ordered the publishers to issue rebate cheques; I guess they'll just pocket all the extra money they made from violating (allegedly) the Competition Act (Canada). |

Yay! Now they need to get on board for those poor Aussies.

Oh, finally. I've never seen any reason why any ebook should be more expensive than a mass-market paperback, so I hope this does bring more books down to a sub-$10 price. (I mean, I've still paid the higher price on some books, but I didn't like it.)

A question, if I may. The quote in the original post says:

Yeah, that part of the CTV article makes no sense whatsoever. The CBC article has no such statement. At the moment I'm 90% certain it's a screw-up on CTV's part.
I'm happy to hear about this agreement. Although I firmly believe that Agency had certain beneficial side effects, its time may be past. |

Wow, this is just pathetic. An 18 month investigation and the result is an agreement to stop breaking the law for 4.5 years. No mention of any punishment and no admission of guilt. Oh and consumers are supposed to be happy about it, what a joke.

And it gets worse. In Ontario, the sales tax on physical books is 5% but the sales tax on ebooks is 13%. This is a government that almost never misses an opportunity to increase taxes.
