Annoying comic rendering in PW 5.3.0

I finally updated to 5.3.0 now that the jailbreak is out and Amazon changed the way comics are rendered. Before, there was no image manipulation whatsoever, but now it autocrops blank areas around the edges, which softens the the image by slightly enlarging it. This is very annoying when I specifically formatted my comics to the resolution of the PW and they looked very crisp and clear.

I'm wondering if anyone knows a way to turn this off via some command or, failing that, revert to 5.2.0. It's kind of a dealbreaker considering I read about as many comics as I do books on it.

As a work-around, have you considered watermarking a 1x1 black dot in (0,0) and (max-x,max-y) to keep the viewer from auto-cropping?

Hmm, it would probably work, but I don't know of any way to do it very quickly. Do you know of a good program that can do it as a batch operation?

Or good old ImageMagick, which is quite powerful for image manipulation (except for actual drawing).

Probably a better choice.
Scripting Gimp is not exactly easy (even for experts).

I ended up using Irfanview which has an option in its batch mode to add borders and since I already use Irfanview for resizing, it doesn't really add any extra steps.
