Changing paragraph formatting in Comments field

Paragraphs in my Comments fields are formatted as no indentation and a blank line between paragraphs. Is it possible to change this to beginning of paragraph indented and no blank line between paragraphs?

By hand you can. You should include something like this:

style="margin-bottom:0;margin-top:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:5%;"

It works because I use it (and it works at the comments display in Kobo).

That is a per HTML TAG way

You can do some formatting using the formatting tools at the top of the comments section. Maybe if you ask nicely Kovid will add that to the tools for comments.

Yes, I've now tried it and it worked. Unfortunately, you seem to need to use it on every paragraph and what I was after is some way of changing the default settings. The reason for this is that I'm making an effort to fill in all my blank comment fields, so doing it book by book would be a bit of a hassle.

Thanks anyway. I shall keep it as a useful tool for one off changes.

When I saw the 'Remove formatting' button in the formatting tools I hoped that this would remove the blank lines. Unfortunately it doesn't, although it does seem to clear almost everything else.

I've been having a look at some of my comments using the html view and they seem to vary. It looks very much like it depends on the source of the comments, eg original book, pasting from Word document, pasting from Notepad document etc.

I've come to the conclusion that what I'm after - a user-defined default setting for the comments - does not exist. I suspect that it's simply such a specialised requirement (probably only by me at the moment ) that it's way down the wish list.

I would like a customised default setting for comments too. I understand that there is no way to apply a certain style for several books at once, you can only edit the comments manually, book by book?

Search:

<p( [^>]*)?>

Replace:

<p style="some-styles">

Would have the effect of nuking all current paragraph-level styles and replacing them with a custom one. Equivalent to a stylesheet override, except no chance of keeping some old rules.

You'll need to use Bulk Edit Metadata, make sure you are in regex mode.
