Charge Kindle in Cover

I was wondering how safe it is to charge the Kindle in its cover.
Should I take it out of the cover to charge or can I leave it in? I am a little concerned that it might overheat in the cover.
Thanks for the help.

The Kindle uses 5W of charging power. That's not going to overheat anything . You'll put more heat than that into your Kindle simply by holding it in your hand.

Agreed agreed agreed... although it does get a little warm (around 70-80ºF), it would never be enough to overheat.

I always charge mine in the case. I have cats and they have a bad habit of knocking things off of a higher surface down to a lower surface that they have better access to... The cover keeps it from falling off of the counter!

That's great!
Thanks everyone for your replies. From now on, I will charge in the cover. This will also reduce the wear and tear on the elastic straps.

Just adding to the pile - I do it all the time with my Kindle 3 in its official Amazon lighted cover.
