You are the first person with the dragons who has even acknowledged anything to do with them.

Since we have established that the dragons do sometimes slow down MR, why is it that some moderators continue to have them as part of the signature thus causing sometimes a slowdown of MR?

If you are one who has these dragons, can you tell us why you have to have them when they do cause issues with MR?

It doesn't really hurt MR per say.

The slow down is your browser waiting for the dragcave site to send you data.

This I do know. But since we know sometimes dragcave is slow, why do some insist on having it as part of their signature?

Gosh, if you don't like them, block them on your side (with adblock plus, noscript, whatever...there's a number of ways) and stop fretting. I don't see why to ban them altogether. This is really not an issue worth mods' attention.

Not everybody knows to do this or even how to do it. Plus if they are new users, they may not know what it is that's slowing down MR. This effects everybody using MR. Not just me.

So wait. You are saying that the dragon eggs site is the reason for the 'hanging' I and others experience here?

It can be considerable sometimes. I always try another site when this happens, and my laptop runs normally.

That in inself should be reason for the owners to host them somewhere else.

Why should I have to be the one to block it? Jon is right here. Many of our new users are 'computer challenged.

Under "Edit Options" (in the CP) there is a check box for hide/show signatures. Unchecking it would solve the problem.

Avatars can be uploaded to the site. So in that case, the site is hosting the avatars and thus is not having to go out to the net to get them and thus slow things down.

Why should we have to turn off signatures for those of you who feel they have to have the dragons as part of the signature? It's really not fair for your signature to slow down MR for all of us.

I'm not saying it is always 100% of the time the issue. But, the dragons web site seems to have no where near the bandwidth and performance that MR has. Also, with dragcave it is set up to not be cached so it can count hits. With people avatars and what not they will get cached by your browser.

That said, google analytics can also cause it, as can google ads. Actually, this is why Alex turned off google ads for logged in users.

DG, do you use FireFox? If so install the Ad Block plus add-in https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865 . Once you have it installed, go Tools -> Adblock Plus Options/Preferences. Click the Add Filter button and type in dragcave.net. Ok it.

See if you see an difference after you do that.

I do soooo love being the first, at anything.

Well, I've long ago moved my dragons to another site where they are resting comfortably, and not slowing down MR one tiny bit. So, please do not blame the dragons in my signature for any of your problems.

Thank you.

Yours are fine, because they are now static links and the browsers will cache them.
