[Calibre2OPDS] Some links are not working.

Hello all!
First thank you for this program. It worked really well with Dropbox, generating a truly functional catalog. Sadly I had (as many other users) to shut down the catalog and switch back to a personal FTP.

And now the problem:
The catalog is working flawlessly on my Local Computer...but the distant catalog present on the FTP is behaving strangely. All files are present, the catalog folder is an exact copy and I have some dead links. Not listed in the catalog, when I browse and get to the point where they should be listed, I have less entries.

Lets say I click on "All books". First page lists 20 books, second page lists 20 books, third page lists 15 books and forgets to show the Lovecraft ones (for example).
The lovecraft folder is there and if I manually check the FTP, the .epub files are there...but for a reason I don't know it's not listed by Calibre2OPDS.

I would say 95% of the links are ok, 4% are "forgotten", 1% gives links with errors ("the file is not present" error...even if it is on the FTP).
I built and uploaded the catalog multiple times without any change. Tried the 3.1 and 3.0 build without any changes too.

Maybe I do something wrong, maybe it's a known bug...in either case I searched and found nothing...so if someone has a clue...I'm all ears

Thanks in advance.

The Calibre2opds catalog is generated from the Calibre metadata database rather than the underlying book files, so if there are entries missing from that database then they will not make it into the calibre2opds generated catalog. You could try running the Calibre->Library->Library Maintenance->Check Library option. The second stage of this checks whether you have book files on disk that are not mentioned in the Calibre database.

Another more subtle error can occur when you hold the Calibre library on a case independent file system (such as used by Windows), but the web site is hosted on a case dependent file system (typically Unix or Linux). In this case all entries should show up in the catalogs, but some of the covers may not show and/or download links may not work. If you check these you will almost certainly find that the case of the folder/file names does not agree with what is in the Calibre database. Since you mention dead links this may be happening to you? One way that I 'think' may correct this (I have not tested it) is to use the Calibre Copy Library facility to make a copy of your library to a new folder on your local machine. With any luck the new copy will have folder/filename cases that match the Calibre metadata database.

Please let me know what you find. If you think that neither of the cases mentioned above apply to you then we will have to look deeper for the cause.

Thank you for the quick answer!
It must be the the "case" error. The catalog is generated on a Windows platform and the FTP is running on Debian :/
I guessed it was something like that but now it's more than a guess.

Ok I will tweak a little bit the library and try to have "case-unified" catalog.
Thank you again itimpi!

After some Database tweaking, yes it was the "case-problem" that caused those dead-links.
In fact sometimes Calibre don't change the casing of the epub file even if you do it right in the program. I've checked the faulty books manually to be sure.
Whatever it was, it's now working.

Thanks!

You might explore the Quality Check PI: Fix: Check and Rename book Paths.
(I think this adjusts the internal DB reference to be the current path case.)
