After a while, the cats picked up on an odd noise mixed in with the whirring and thumping. As the LITTLE RED DOT hadn't reappeared, they padded off to investigate, in case it was a mouse.
Then they paused, ears twitching. This wasn't quite what they were expecting. they edged closer, and paused again, looking alert. Then, as one, they started yowling. So preoccupied with yowling were they that they didn't even notice the sound of the front door opening... |

(last night's update failed to arrive due to farking sodding migraines. Tonight's is brought to you courtesy of a head full of fog and cotton wool...)
Zelda was struck by several things as she arrived home after the party. The first was that she had portalled to just outside her apartment, instead of inside as normal. However, she did at least have her keys, and she let herself in. Then there were no cats to greet her, but this might be explained by the fact she could them yowling. Underneath that racket, she could hear a tumbledrier in action. Before she could give any more thought to that, she was struck by a PNS seal, which for some reason had been balancing on the door with an acorn (instead of the more traditional ball) on its nose. And with that, she crumpled to the floor. Hearing the thud, the older cat batted the younger, who shot off. Seeing she-who-feeds-them lying on the floor, she proceeded to use all the tricks known to cat kind to wake a human up. She started off with a paw in her mouth, then proceeded to dribble in one eye whilst sticking her nose in the other. She was just about to give up and start scratching her leg when she sat up. Sorted And those were the tactics Raffles used to use on us. He also somehow managed to get whiskers up my nose, too!

All of the above
He was also the one who, as a kitten, once raced up and down the length of the lounge/dining room vomitting. He took the line directly in front of one visitor he really didn't like - and as it was the only time he did it, I think it was deliberate |

As Zeda sat up she noticed one of the cats shooting off. That would explain the taste of fur in her mouth. Wiping cat-dribble out of her eye, she went to see what all of the fuss was about. The two cats were yowling at the tumble-drier, which was rocking gently in a way tumble driers don't normally rock. She knew she hadn't put anything on to dry before the party, so it really shouldn't be on now. Cautiously, and puzzledly, she switched it off. In the sudden silence, she thought she could hear voices from inside the drier. Putting it down to the zany carters, she started to head away, then realised that the cats were, if anything, yowling at it even more loudly than before. And there were definitely voices coming from inside. Quiet, subdued and muffled voices, but voices none-the-less.
Very, very cautiously Zelda slowly opened the door, jumping back in shock as a pile of some-how very-relieved looking socks, scarves and other items launched themselves out of the drier. She could have sworn she heard the scarf mutter something about how they would have been out quicker if they'd it done the scarf's way. Scratching her head in bewilderment, she found a sore spot. This reminded her that something had fallen on her when she came, and she went back to the door to investigate. She recognised the bewildered-looking aquatic mammal by the front door as a PNS seal. Thoughtfully, she picked up the phone. "Hello? Is that Monts-n-Mags Enterprises? Do you have anything to shield my apartment against PNS poiting? You do? Wonderful! No - I don't mind that it's only just come out of beta testing. You don't have anything that can deal with SHUMS too, do you? No? Never mind..." (and that's it. Unfortunately, I enjoyed writing that one, so I may inflict more upon you all ) |

what ??? that's the end ???? you have to explain it all !! where did that seal come from ?? how did the socks and scarf get stuck in the dryer in the first place, and why ??? what will montsnmags supply to shield from pns poiting ? and WHY (dear god) do they have nothing against shums ???????? just what are they wasting their time with, anyway ????

I'll admit that I've only read the last few posts, but I have to know (since this isn't the first time I've seen it here on MR)...what are the ZANY CARTERS?

no-one knows... and most of us are pretty sure we don't want to. it's a cocktail marc cooks up and the ingredients are top secret, but given the ineffable effects (including hallucinations and involuntary time-travel), we're pretty sure we're better off not knowing.
