I saw I had an update for some of the Google Apps, and they are indeed called Google Play Music and and Google Play Books.

I like the name Android Market better than Google Play.

Hey!
i've just installed a new firmware on my galaxy s1 and i can't access android market(google play) to download some aplications. it redirects me to a page where it says about google play. What is the problem? Should I install an application called Google Play? Thank you Last edited by nafets_eisur; 03-06-2012 at 05:39 PM. |

They might be putting things on hold while they think up a less naff name - not too difficult.

Naming aside, this could be an interesting development if Google can leverage all the Android users they have and get their eBook, Music and Video shops up to scratch (especially allowing international purchases).

A content store named Google Play with apps, books, games, movies, and music with cloud services needs a consumer consumption device - aka 7" Android tablet. According to the rumor mill, we could possibly see the Google Play.

I followed the links to this yesterday only to find that "Google Play Music" is not available outside the US, "Google Play Movies" is available in the UK, I would probably use it occasionally but the app "is not compatible with my device" (which I guess means it's a phone rather than a tablet, but it's definitely capable of playing movies) - so that leaves "Google Play Books" - which is fine but for me it just amounts to a re-name of my 3rd or 4th ebook store.

Rather ...... juvenile?
I've just paid the site a visit.
That name does look very silly - smacks of a TV programme that ought to be on between 3.00 & 5.00. And I don't think positioning "Android" directly beneath it helps ....... |

I think getting rid of the Android label is a good idea. I don't have an Android device, and a few months ago when I found the Google music store, I really was rather confused initially about buying and downloading mp3 files--I wondered if there might be something device-specific that would prevent me from playing them on my mp3 player.
