It's funny, last night I was searching for more information about an old gaming magazine I was thinking about buying on ebay.
I simply typed in the name in a well known search engine, and one of the first few results was a download link to a PDF of it. So yeah, pirate sites exist rather brazenly... |

You can mention that it is possible and that is immediatly, or shortly after, followed by a post that is violates Amazons TOS and that we don't discuss that here. Trust me, been there, done that on many occassions. Yesterday it happened one someone asked about rooting the Kindle Fire.
So you can discuss the pros and cons but the second you discuss doing it there is a warning. Most people don't discuss it because most people there because the discussion is so stilted. |

Yes, that's the impression I got. But you can discuss the benefits of DRM. That should attract a lot of MobileReaders!

It keeps me honest. It keeps a steady supply of books coming from the wonderful publishers. God bless them everyone. Now I'm off to dry some more banana peels |

It really is a good site just very different than here. It fills a different gap.

Joking aside, they do look pretty good, but strict. Are they affiliated with Amazon?

They have something in place where if you order from a link on their site, they get some cash. I guess that is an affiliation. It is not a problem to say that you don't like the Kindle. There are sections to discuss other e-readers, Apple products and the like and those are active.

I noticed their guidelines state they will not only delete "non-KindleBoards Amazon affiliate links" but even reserve the right to "add links, or update links, in your KindleBoards posts with links that contain KindleBoards affiliate codes."

For a while they had something with Teavana and would post Teavana links in the Tea Thread. It has been a few years since that happened. I think the effort is to keep some money coming in so that the board stays a float. (shrugs)
I have seen plenty of people post not nice things about Kindles and ask some hard questions. But it has a very different vibe than here. |

KB is a really good site for someone who has just bought a Kindle and has technical questions or wants to learn about accessories, etc. I used to belong, but it's easy to outgrow the site once you've figured out a few things about your Kindle and have properly accessorized it.
The demographic seems different, too - much less techy, slightly older, more female, less highly educated. |

They are actually a pretty well educated bunch, they just have less interest in debating legalities and copyright and the like. They do love their accessories. The Writers Cafe is very active which is great for Independent Authors.
But yeah, it is more of a casual drop by to discuss Kindles, covers, and play some goofy games then it is for serious discussion of e-readers and topics around e-readers. I have gotten together with a bunch of the KB folks from my area for lunch three or four times. It is a more social groups than MR. |
