Help! calibre shows no books in library

I was adding a few new books to my calibre library and they got a warning of metadata not found. I then saw that the books had entries with no files associated and when I tried to delete those using the remove books icon I got multiple warning messages - sorry, I can't remember what they were. When all messages were done, there were no books in my library. All the folders and files do exist though. The metadata.db was only 94k. I tried deleting this file and opening calibre again but still no books in my library and the metadata.db was rebuilt but still 94k.

Other than adding all books manually from existing files and folders is there anything I can do? I am using version 7.16

having a small (94K) metadata.db file means that at some point the metadata.db file was deleted and then calibre regenerated a blank default. To recover, you either have to re-add the books or restore metadata.db from a backup.

Thanks. I was afraid of that. The metadata.db went to 94k after all the error messages.

Hard to say what's going wrong, without knowing what the error messages were.
