Hanyok, Robert J.: Eavesdropping on Hell.v1. 12 April 2014

Eavesdropping on Hell: Historical Guide to Western Communications Intelligence and the Holocaust, 1939-1945 is a book published by the National Security Agency of the United States.

It details what was known and what can be gleaned from records about how much was known by US and British officials of the Holocaust which resulted in the deaths of millions of Jews and others.

It is not a full story, since much of what occurred was not broadcast over the air, which was the primary means by which information was obtained. Also the focus of interception of messages was to facilitate the fight against Nazi Germany. Nor were all the messages decrypted, since they documented hundreds of thousands of messages, but decrypted and translated only a small fraction.

This is an excellent guide for anyone wanting to research this area as it explains how and which documents are stored both by the British and the U. S.

It does give a few samples and some sidelights into what was known.

I was personally left with an understanding how the translators of the documents must have felt, knowing what they did and knowing how little could be done at the time.
