Barnes & Noble Introduces Nook for Web
Bookseller Barnes & Noble is bringing its digital eReading platform Nook to the web, making eBooks available to read online. The platform lets Barnes & Noble customers access their Nook library from their browser. It works on Safari, Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer.
To get people to try out the platform, the book retailer is making it really easy to access. The service doesn’t require any kind of account, software download or login. Readers can simply go online to the Nook for web page and start browsing eBooks. To promote the service, Barnes & Noble is giving away six free eBooks throughout July 26th, including: Map of Bones by James Rollins, Sex and the City by Candace Bushnell, The Vow by Kim Carpenter, The Boxcar Children Summer Special by Gertrude Chandler Warner, Brave by Tennant Redbank and Perfect Island Getaways by Patricia Schultz. Amazon’s Kindle platform has been available for reading online since September 2010. |

Here's the link for NOOK for Web.
To get the six free ebooks that Phoebemy listed, you need to have a credit card on account at Barnes & Noble. At the end of the book sample, there's an icon that says "Nook Book $0.00" in the upper right corner of the screen. Just click on that. You don't need an account if you just want to read samples. Amazon's Cloud Reader is here. |

Not interested in anything that stores my books in the cloud. If I'm paying full price for the book, I want the copy to be able to be backed up on my computer.
plus, this assumes that you've got unlimited broadband. i'd really like the stats on how many people in this country don't have that available to them. |

Raises hand. And I agree. While the Cloud can be convenient at times, I will *never* allow any of my content to exist only on the cloud.

I trust it is clear that reading in the cloud does not preclude you from downloading a portable ePub file. At least with B&N content. Google used to sell some books that could only be read online or with their mobile apps, but I haven't seen any of those lately.
