Permanently deleting items from the media library?!
After I just posted how awesome Amazon is, I had a 30 minute conversation with two Kindle specialists who claimed that it is absolutley and utterly impossible to delete content permanently. I am beyond aggravated.
I know there have been discussions about it in the past, so my question is: Has anynone ever successfully permanently deleted any items from their cloud library? I have 344 French (free) classics in my trashcan that I am trying to get rid of. I deleted them one by one in the beginning, which, as you can all imagine, took hours. Then I found a link to the YourMediaLibrary in one of the older threads (thank you to the poster), and I could select them all and delete them all in bulk! Alas, they are all still in the trashcan. There is a button to permanently remove items from the trashcan, but when I click it! I get this message: Quote:

Ah never delete a book from Manage your Kindle while it is in the trash of the media library. First restore it and then delete it from Manage! Last edited by mahou; 09-14-2013 at 01:45 PM. |

Yes I think mahou is spot on. I tried the multiple deletion using the media library after reading about it on here and didn't realise at first it only moves them to the trash. I think you can probably delete documents like saved web articles from it, but for books, the only way to permanently delete them is to do it individually via the MYK page.
I don't think you can actually delete them from the MYK page once they are in the trash of the media library, because the books I did that with are now no longer showing in the MYK page. You'd need to go back into the media library and restore them first. But I'm not about to do that because there is no way I am sitting wasting hours of my time painfully deleting one book at a time while having to wait for the page to refresh each and every time. |

This bookmarklet helped me a lot to clean out a bunch of impulse free book buys: http://pepa.info/check-and-delete/
It's still slow and tedious, but at least you can select everything on one page instead of each individual book. |

Thanks, 7hir7een. The warning makes me cautious of using it, though, since I'd create a hackable backdoor into my Amazon account. Plus, at 344 books and only 15 books showing per page, it is still not a great solution, albeit a 15x faster solution than what Amazon has to offer.

You have to remove the books from the trash can in Your Media Library, then delete them via "Manage Your Kindle". It's the only way.

Now, let me ask you the core question under all this.
Why, oh why, would you want to delete 344 french classics ? I am deeply hurt |

I've emailed them to ask why they can't make it easier but its never made any difference. I hate clutter, so the thought of hundreds of ebooks sitting in my archive taunting me is pretty annoying. But I only ever manage to delete about 10 books from the Manage Your Kindle page before I get fed up.
It seemed like a good idea at the time to download hundreds of freebies from Amazon..... |

I only downloaded them all before I gifted my old Kindle to my aunt, who teaches French but may not have an internet connection at home. It was a stupid thing to do from my account - should have created one for her, but what's done is done. I know I can always download them for free whenever I want, so I don't want them sitting and clogging up my account, since there are another 840 ebooks in there and amazon does not offer any sorting/filtering/cataloguing functionality. My "manage your kindle" area is such a mess!! |

I refused to create another account for my son's Kindle, so his books are all mixed with mine in the Manage your Kindle. Now I am seriously thinking of giving him part of his allowance in amazon giftcards so he can get his own account, but to think about books migration from mine to his account just gives me brain freeze, so that's a project for later this year. And now my daughter is old enough to want my K4NT with her books on it, so there it goes all over again.... |

You can't move books from one Amazon account to another. You would have to de-register and re-register to the other account to access the books on the other account. On Fires, that deletes all content you have previously downloaded.

On the Kindle eink devices I've passed on to family members, the books stay put unless you manulally delete them.
