Hello,

There's a new site for different fandoms (FictionPad.com). Hearing about writers from fanfiction.net starting to migrate here. Wanted to see if I could put in a request for this site?

Implementing support for a site like this is always a pain, since it runs almost exclusively with JavaScript (AJAX etc.)...

Is anyone else having a huge PITA with fanfiction.net? I know that it has been running slow lately, but for the last 3 days it's been moving at an almost non-existent rate.

@leckadams I was using it last night and it was okay, but it was only for about a dozen stories, and some of them were incremental updates, not new downloads.

Hi,

I ran across something odd recently.

I was following a story that was a WIP and at some point when it was still in-progress I used the Generate Cover plugin to add a cover picture and I used Polish books to embed the picture into the story.

When I updated the story the embedded image disappeared. To fix this, I re-added the cover and used Polish Books again. The result is that a 43 chapter story was cut down to 20 chapters.

It appears that for stories that are being updated it's a bad idea to add the Cover image too soon because once the story is complete the cover image is lost and if you try and add it again you lose chapters from the story. I'm not sure if this is a Fanfiction Downloader problem, a Polish Books issue, or Generate Cover problem.

Fanfiction Downloader is working fine in terms of updating the story, though I'm not sure why the cover is removed? Or if that's normal?

Sorry if I posted this question in the wrong place. I thought maybe I'm not the only one that is following stories in Calibre that are in-progress and someone else may have run into this problem before.

I'd appreciate any and all advice,

I also ran into this problem, but I didn't realize it also affected the story text. I ran generate cover and then polish books and that was that. I don't even remeber the story titles.

Could you post the url of the story that was "cut down"?

Downloaded fine for me.

Remember, fictionpress.com is by the same people as fanfiction.net--both sides are now significantly slower to download. A fifty chapter story like that will take a minimum of 4 minutes.

Hmmm. That's a very interesting way to build a site. It's certainly not another cookie-cutter eFiction site.

Looks like there's 2752 total stores (2252 for Twilight) and there are a lot of recent postings. I haven't made an exhaustive search, but I have found evidence that the site's been around since 2008, maybe 2007.

No promises, but I'll probably give a try.

FFDL should only replace your existing cover if you have the "Update EPUB cover when Updating EPUB" option checked when you update it. Otherwise it should leave the cover alone. If you still have problems, please post the URL for a story that you have seen that problem with.

You can also use FFDL to call Generate Cover for stories on download/update.

Thanks for the explanation. While I'm not affected by this issue, your message is a lot clearer than calibre's included warning.

Okay, I checked my settings and I did not have "Update EPUB cover when Updating EPUB" option checked in my settings. I'm not sure why the cover is being deleted from the ebook? [to be clear the cover is not deleted from the Calibre cover view/metadata]

The FFDL option to delete other existing formats worked.
