tar can create multi-part, optionally compressed, optionally with volume labels, archives also.

But I suppose if the developers don't know how to do that, then the end-users don't stand a chance of opening them.

The 3.0.2 mirror is in the pastebin (but not the pastebin mirror, until I figure out how to edit it).

EDIT: Pasetbin mirror (at snipurl/debrick*) now matches the pastebin...
