New Kindle 3 and a quick question about content?

Totally new to e-readers and very happy so far with my new Kindle. I just downloaded my first book and am off and running (or reading). Can anyone tell me if the written content is EXACTLY the same in a Kindle book as the hardcopy edition would be? Thanks

Yes they are the same. If you read a book on Kindle and the paper version they will be exactly the same. Only real difference is the page numbering.

A book is a book, whether it is on paper or digital ebook.. the only difference is that some books may remove the pictures in ebook versions.

Every so often you may run into formatting errors or typos. This is more common with the free books, and less common you download them from a source that has proofed versions such as the Mobileread library.

Yes.

Now, click on the library link below, and see the over 15,000 public domain ebooks available here.

Formatted by our own members, error proofed, and extra pages removed.

Enjoy.

I'm sorry to disagree, but that's certainly not always the case. Mobipocket books are capable of much less sophisticated formatting than paper books are (eg you can't have multiple typefaces in a book), so very often formatting will be lost in the eBook.

Yes I suppose you are right, if the book is formatted in some weird way then the formatting could be lost in translation to ebook format.

Usually, the Kindle version is a pretty good representation of the pbook. Sometimes - like any ebook for any ereader - they stink on ice. Unless you read along in both versions at the same time, you may never know if they are exactly the same.

An ebook is a separate edition of the book just the way hardcover, trade paperback, and mass market paperbacks are different. Usually, the text is the same, but often there are fixes (typos in the original being fixed, ...), additions, and omissions that leave the various editions, including the ebook edition, slightly different. Even with the same type of edition, differences can be introduced in subsequent printings.

With ebook versions of current printings, it is likely that the ebook's datafile forked from the pbook version that it was derived from before the last proofreading pass done on the pbook. This can result in the pbook being fixed and the fixes not being migrated to the ebook.
