Newspapers on PRS-300
Hi guys:
I am new to E-readers world, been reading the forums over the last month. I have decided to get a Sony PRS-300. A couple of questions: 1. Thinking of getting the navy blue version instead of the silver version - I read somewhere silver is not too easy on the eyes? 2. I installed Calibre on my Mac, and I agree - fantastic piece of software. Is the PRS-300 able to display greyscale pictures from the newspaper content that Calibre prepares? Any other tips from you guys would be much appreciated. Cheers! |

I assume the 300 can display pictures. At least the 600 and 505 can.
For getting newspapers on the 300, I'm not completely sure that you'll get happy. But it strongly depends in what format you get the newspaper. |

Mike I believe he stated he was using Calibre to d/l the newspapers using the built-in or custom recipes in Calibre.
The images, if included in the recipe, should look fine. I attached what my local newspaper looks like on my 505. Since the resolution on the 300 and the 505 are the same your results should look similar. You can test out the recipes by looking at the d/l results via Calibre's ebook viewer. Your screenshots look great. Can you explain how calibre breaks the newspaper down? What is the initial file?

Thank you so much for replying. The screenshots look great. Yes Mike, I was referring to the file produced by Calibre when you ask it to fetch your choosen newspaper.
Like dwanthny mentioned, Calibre has an internal viewer that allows you to read the output file produced [simulated e-reader reading]. I am not sure what the initial file is but I presume its an epub file that you can transfer to your device using Calibre. I will check later today. |

I have been using Calibre to download the NYT onto my PRS-300 and it's awesome! It's an epub file with a table of contents -- each section of the paper is a hotlink, if you click on a section, it takes you to a list of hotlinks for each article. It's a really nice setup!

In the images you can see the main menu, it sets up one main menu item for each separate feed included in the recipe. My example news had 8 different feeds to download. Last edited by DoctorOhh; 04-28-2010 at 09:01 PM. |

Calibre Newspaper Output
Here are a few screenshots of how Calibre "breaks down" the news paper content.
