Heart of a Hero is the first novel in my four-book fantasy series, Daran's Journey. Amazon and Barnes and Noble just price-matched the first book on Smashwords, so it's now free for download.

Daran is hardly a hero; in fact, when we first meet him, he seems to be anything but. Forced to become a fugitive by circumstance, Daran’s questionable morals and dubious choices lead him deeper and deeper into trouble. Those choices culminate in him being hanged for murder, but to his surprise, his story doesn’t end there. Fleeing the harsh authority of the Baron, trying to make sense of what’s happening to him, Daran joins a small group of priests who have been sent to investigate odd happenings on the wild northern frontier. Daran must help two young priests, the missionary soldier Arla and the empathic Jaros, with their own quest as he fights both to stay alive and find out just what is happening to him.

Available at the Kindle Store, Smashwords, and most of the other major e-book retailers.

Books 2 and 3 of the series (Soul of a Coward and Will of a Warrior) are already available for sale. The final installment, Courage of a Champion, will be released this fall.
