Komplett frei kann ich mich nicht machen, aber ich schaff's meist wenigstens, dass ich nicht ständig in das "Das war im Buch aber so und nicht SO" Schema verfalle. Der dritte Teil war als Film und insbesondere als Buchumsetzung schwach, wenn auch visuell mehr als opulent. Die Dune-Fernseh-Miniserie fand ich ganz in Ordnung, an den Film kann ich mich nicht so recht erinnern, da ich den das letzte mal gesehen hatte weit bevor ich die Bücher gelesen habe. Einige Dinge aus dem Film sind mir aber beim Lesen der Bücher im Nachhinein doch unnötig merkwürdig vorgekommen...

Habe gerade Clarkes "2001 - Odyssee im Weltraum" gelesen. Der Film ist entschieden besser. Der Roman ist eher schwach, die Charaktere besitzen keine Tiefe, die Dialoge sind platt, die visuelle Beschreibung ist nicht konsistent etc.. Clarke hätte m.E. nicht versuchen sollen aus seiner Kurzgeschichte und dem mit Stanley Kubrick erstellten Drehbuch nochmal einen Roman zu verfassen.

Das hatte ich gar nicht gewußt, hatte immer angenommen, dass das Buch vor dem Film entstand. Ich wollte immer noch das Buch lesen, hatte es aber immer wieder aufgeschoben, weil ich nicht so ein Fan vom ersten Film bin, auch wenn er schon etwas besonderes zu seiner Zeit war.

Ach, das ist etwas komplizierter:

1951 erschien "The Sentinel of Eternity", eine Kurzgeschichte von Clarke, die als Vorlage für "2001" diente.
1968 kam "2001" in die Kinos.
1968 wiederum schrieb Clarke quasi nach seiner eigenen Vorlage und der Vorlage des Films den Roman "2001: A Space Odyssey".

Man kann also sehr wohl die Kurzgeschichte mögen, aber nicht zwingend den Roman vom Film, obwohl beide vom selben Autor sind ...

Und der Film ist heute noch etwas Besonderes. Für mich der einzige ernst zu nehmende Weltraum-(nicht SF-)Film. Tricktechnisch, ohne CGI, bis heute unerreicht.
Und die Laserlichtshow am Schluss spart einfach Unmengen Geld für Rauschmittel!

Das ist sicher richtig.

Ich habe den Film über die Jahre immer mal wieder gesehen und letztendlich hat er mir nie so richtig gefallen. Bilder brilliant, Entwicklung der Geschichte aber vor allem am Anfang schleppend. Die Handlung um Hal ist interessant. Mit dem Ende kann ich leben, spricht mich aber auch nicht so an, da fehlen mir dann sicher die Drogen zu.


Wohin geht denn die Gesamtgeschichte der weiteren Bücher hin?

Also 2001 hat für mich Kultstatus, wie allerdings fast jeder Film von Stanley.

Wenn man sich mal vorstellt, daß dieser Film kurz vor der Mondlandung in die Kinos kam. Da gibt es ja auch noch unkaputtbare Gerüchte, daß die NASA die Filmtechnik von 2001 für eine inzenierte Mondlandung genutzt hätte.

Also ich glaub schon, daß die USA auf dem Mond waren. Ich war zwar damals noch sehr jung und kann mich nur noch schwach an die Bilder im S/W-Fernsehen erinnern, aber ich war schon mehrfach in Cape Caneveral und bin überzeugt.

Zurück zu 2001. Für viele ist der Film langatmig und kommt einfach nicht in die Gänge. Das liegt aber daran, daß Stanley entgegen allen Tendenzen nicht kurze Schnitte in den Film gesetzt hat, sondern richtig lange Szenen mit wenig Veränderungen. Der Film wirkt hiermit absichtlich extrem entschleunigend. Ein krasser Gegensatz zur schnellen Entwicklung der Menschheit/Technik im 20.Jahrhundert. Ich find das wirklich gut.

Außerdem enthält der Film sonst noch eine Menge interessanter Anspielungen.
Sicherlich ist den meisten noch bekannt, warum der Rechner HAL genannt wird.... (bitte jeden Buchstaben im Alphabet einen Platz weiterschieben)

Die Vorlage und das Buch nach dem Film habe ich nicht gelesen.
Kann ich mir auch gar nicht vorstellen, da der Film selbst ein Kunstwerk ist und nicht in Buchform darstellbar ist.

2001 ist eines de besten Beispiele dafür, dass es fast schon egal ist, ob die Buchvorlage besser ist. Der Film ist so bildgewaltig, dass sich diese Ästhetik nie in geschriebener Form darstellen ließe.

Mir ist es daher auch eher wichtig, dass der Film in erster Linie ein guter Film ist, und nicht ein guter Film zum Roman. Was habe ich von einem schlechten Film, der als gute Romandaption gepriesen wird? Wozu sollte ich ihn mir antun?

Wer 2001 gut findet sollte sich umbedingt " 2010 Das Jahr, in dem wir Kontakt aufnehmen " ansehen. Das ist die Fortsetzung, und einer der wenigen Fortsetzungen die fast besser sind als der erste Film.

Wenn du das Buch gelesen hast, gehe nicht in den Film.

Ich habe mich auch bei Teil 2 und 3 nicht daran gehalten, aber die Erwartungshaltung um mehrere Stufen gesenkt. Was soll ich sagen, der Trick hat funktioniert. Für beide Filme somit eine gute 3.

Klasse Thread, den wärme ich doch malwieder auf.

1) Der Goldene Kompass: Ich habe die Bücher noch nicht gelesen, aber der Film war doch wohl unter aller Kanone!

2) Schindlers Liste: Habe zuerst den Film gesehen und fand den ziemlich gut. Als ich dann versuchte das Buch zu lesen, ging das nicht. Die Beschreibungen wichen dermaßen vom Film ab, dass ich -als extrem visueller Mensch- keine Chance mehr hatte, die Bilder in meinem Kopf umzubasteln.

3) The Godfather (Der Pate): GROSSARTIGER Film. Einer meiner absoluten Lieblingsfilme. ABER: Unbedingt ERST das Buch lesen. Dort werden die "dos and don'ts" in der (fiktiven) Mafia-Welt erklärt. Sowas wie "widersprich dem Paten nicht vor Fremden" u.ä.. Ohne diese Erklärungen verpasst man im Film eine Menge. MIT diesen Erklärungen hat es mich fast vom Stuhl gerissen.

4) LOTR: Habe zuerst die Bücher gelesen. Den ersten Film im Kino fand ich sehr beeindruckend. Ich saß in den Sessel gepresst, die Armlehnen umklammert und dachte abwechselnd: "Angst, ist das cool, angst, ist das cool, angst..." Die Ringgeister fand ich extrem einschüchternd.
Aber: "Wer ist eigentlich Arwen?" Muss denn bitteschön JEDER Film so eine dämlich Romanze beinhalten? HALLO? Das ist ein Kriegsfilm!!! Diese bescheuerte Liebesgeschichte hätten sie sich wirklich schenken können. WAS SOLL DAS???

5) Der Seewolf: Mittlerweile habe ich drei Varianten gesehen. Den Advents-Vierteiler mit Raimund Harmstorf, den Zweiteiler mit Sebastian Koch und den Zweiteiler mit Thomas Kretschmann.
Die Harmstorf-Variante ist mein Favorit. Allerdings passen diese Zwischensequenzen aus den anderen London-Geschichten nicht dazu. Die Idee ist ja ganz nett, aber die Story wird verfälscht. Im Buch hat van Weyden NOCH NIE auf eigenen Füßen gestanden, Verantwortung übernommen oder überhaupt für sich selbst sorgen müssen. In dieser Verfilmung soll er angeblich als Kind Hobo-mäßig getrampt sein und für sein Essen gearbeitet haben. Passt nicht wirklich...
Die beiden anderen Verfilmungen haben auch deutliche Schwächen. Hätten sie doch nur das Kretschmann-Drehbuch mit dem Staff von der Koch-Verfilmung gedreht... *seufz*
Kretschmann hat nun wirklich GAR KEINE Austrahlung. Der sieht doch eher aus wie der hinterletze Matrose als wie der Kapitän...

FAZIT: Für mich kommt nur das Lesen des Buches vor ansehen des Filmes in frage. Wie schon erwähnt: Ich bin ein dermaßen visueller, optischer Mensch, dass ich mir erst mein eigenes Bild machen muss. Sonst habe ich keine Chance mehr.
Der Nachteil ist natürlich, dass ich ständig denke: "Im Buch war das aber anders..."

ich kenn nur einene film, der zu 99,9% Buchvorlagen-gerecht ist: "Der letzte Kaiser"
im Film nur eine Szene geändert: die Hochzeitsnacht. (gemäß des Tagebuchs ist Pu Yi damals davongelaufen)

Mir geht es da eher so wie Marc_liest - wenn ich die Verfilmung eines Buches im Kino ansehe, nachdem ich das Buch gelesen habe, bin ich meist extremst enttäuscht, weil ich mir die Charaktere ganz anders vorgestellt hatte und weil natürlich die (für mich) wichtigsten Stellen des Buches im Film weggelassen wurden
Zu dieser Regel fällt mir nur eine Ausnahme ein, das war "Der Name der Rose", da mochte ich auch den Film sehr.
