Metadata problem
Noticed that my computer is saving all my metadata as adobe reader files instead of opf. files (including in my calibre library) ...might be why I am having trouble with covers and such...is there a way to restore these to opf. without having to reload everything as it would be extremely tedious with 1000 ebooks to sort through.
Thanks |

What makes you think it is saving metadata as adobe files? Calibre does not work like that. It seems more likely that you have messed up your systems file associations and it IS creating.opf files but you think they are adobe files.

When I open folders in my calibre library it shows the ebook file, the cover jpg and a red box with adobe symbol in it. Somehow the opf file has been associated with adobe.......would like to return it to its original status/format. Would a library metadata backup or restore database take care of this?

I think you will find all that has happened is that that the files are still being saved correctly; just that the O/S has had it's association for opf files changed from nothing, to one of the Adobe programs.
What O/S are you running? Knowing that will help us direct you to a solution. Besides I hate to say, reloading your library will change nothing; the associations between file types, and icons / associated programs, are at the O/S level. |

I've tried this tool http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/un...ndows-7-vista/ and it seems to work properly.
After you have installed it and run it, look through the list of extensions show for .opf (you can just type .opf in the box). Once found you probably want to select the "Delete file type" button as an OPF file is normally not associated with anything. |

Looking in the Registry, there is NO (key) entry for :HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.opf
If you have one, it probably got set accidentally (removing the key should not hurt, but any Registry surgery should be done with a backup. The Key or Full registry |

@BetterRed; I felt the original poster would be far happier with a GUI solution than a command line but thanks

There is also the FTYPE command; FTYPE and ASSOC go hand in hand.
