Software for resizing PDF's

Has anyone used Advanced PDF Tools v2.0 from Verypdf.com to resize pdf's for the reader? The Verypdf web site includes a link to a page that descibes the process used (http://www.verypdf.com/pdfinfoeditor...per/resize.htm).

tshare,

Have you looked at PDFrasterFarian? This is what made me by the Sony Reader. Converts all my PDFs without any problems and they look great on the Reader.

I concur, works like a champ and best of all it's free (and optimized )!

I have used PDFrasterFarian, but my understanding is that it converts vector PDF information to raster images, which makes the files unsearchable on the computer, and increases the size of the files. The potential benefit of using something like Advanced PDF Tools v2.0 (if it works as well as it claims) is that the vector information remains vector, keeping the file smaller, and preserving searchability (is that a word?) when used on a computer. I like the idea of efficiently using space and not needing to keep multiple copies of the same document.

Thanks for pointing this out. As long as you have a PDF that includes it's embedded data; e.g., text, then using one of the other tools would work best. I originally tried to simply copy/paste the text out of a PDF into an RTF, but found I was working with a simnple PDF image w/o fonts, etc.

Regarding saving space... if your PDF is already resterized, no embedded text, then the previously mentioned program works perfect and saves you anywhere from 40-70% of the original file size and converts it to the native LRF format.

Excellent point!

Just a small thought here: if you're putting the rasterized file on your Reader, then it doesn't really matter if you can't search it since the Reader doesn't have a search function. You can always keep a copy of the vectored file on your 'puter where you can search it.

I thought of that, but given my thousands of PDF's I didn't want to maintain libraries of duplicates.

I see where you are coming from but there is no way I will read all my reference PDFs (ones I will be searching) on my reader. I just convert the books as I want to read them, deleting the lrf copy from my PC after I get it on the reader.

Ach, no, I wouldn't want to do that either.
