Feature Request: limit viewer windows to one instance only.
Hopefully this is a simple request to implement.
Basically I would very much like to see a tick box in the viewer config which give me the choice of limiting the viewer to a single instance. In other words, all books are opened in the same window, rather than each new book opening a separate window. |

Yesterday I was messing around with the Cover Browser and clicked on a book to open it. I didn't see an immediate response so I figured it must need a double click and I tried again. Directly after that I had three instances of the same book opened in three different viewing windows. If I had the tweak mentioned by the OP I could have protected me from myself.
Also if I was doing eyeball checks of my books one after the other you wouldn't need to keep closing the viewer windows as you go. Last edited by DoctorOhh; 04-23-2012 at 02:04 AM. |

This is actually far from simple to implement. You'd need to implement some form of IPC in the viewer process and global locking. While that's certainly do-able (it's done in the main GUI), it's not easy to do.

My 2p
I sometimes open 2 Viewers at the same time to compare how Calibre displays (different file) versions. If this Is implemented: optional, please. |

I am torn both ways. Ideally I would like the default behavior to be to re-use the same viwer, but still have a way of opening a particular book in another viewer instance if I want.

I'd definitely check that box if something like this was implemented, but since it's apparently a difficult thing to do I think my "vote" would be to leave it alone and focus on other improvements.

It will certainly be an option if I do implement it. Go ahead and open a bug report asking for the enhancement. I'll get to it eventually.
