I'm actually surprised they mentioned the nook colour, given it's a CBC report and you can't buy either nook in Canada. I guess it's a nod to all the cross-border shopping happening.

Overall, it's a pretty fluff-filled report, but it shows how these devices are really becoming mainstream. For people who still don't really know that the market exists, it puts a bunch of different brand names in your face so that you can start looking around. A lot of people, when they see my nook, assume it's a kindle, or, more recently, and iPad. Reports like this will hopefully help the masses realize there's more to that market than just those two devices.

It looks like BestBuy started sell jetBook mini in Canada but they didn't mention it
in CBC News Video.

People at work mistake my Nook Color for an iPad. Hopefully there'll be more articles and reports to educate the masses on the other devices.

I think both iPad and Kindle have become kind of generic names for these devices by those that don't know much about them. Like Kleenex.

I agree; so every time someone asks if my Sony is a Kindle I tell them no and that it's like calling all television sets a Zenith.

So many of these "reviews" just mention the latest and the greatest (and most expensive)... yet a large majority of Kindle sales are the regular one sold on Amazon, the Kindle 2 wifi and wifi+3G, same for B&N Nook, the $149 Nook is the biggest seller of their readers.

Some reviews use bias... such as comparing the cheapest $139 Kindle and a $89 reader to the most expensive $249 Color Nook, usually making the high end item appear as if they are massively better.

edit: also this whole "social network sharing" is treated as if it is the latest and greatest... so now not only do we have to dig through peoples useless posts about sitting on their back porch, we also have to see them bragging about reading a book and how many pages and a number of extra posts on top of the already insane amount of "here is my life on display" crap.

Not crazy about the "life on display" stuff either.
